Why do so many people in the Middle East countries carry signs and chant "Death to Israel"?

Because it is very convenient for their governments.

People who are too busy hating an external enemy don't seem to notice their ****** up life. This is the oldest trick in the book: gather your people around the same scapegoat if you don't want them to mind your business as their leader.

Breeding hate is pretty easy, apparently. All you have to do is destroy any source of free education, rewrite history as you want, feed your people with blind slogans and lies and voila- you have loads of ignorant people that burn flags and cry "Itbakh elYahud" instead of forcing their governments to make their countries better.
Those who have the guts to get out of their mental ghettoes and reject the piles of lies that their society has been feeding them for years are banned at best. Ask Nonie Darwish, Brigitte Gabriel and many others.

When I come to read the posters above me and their fellow friends that will probably thumb me down in a minuet, I often wonder why the hell they insist on repeating false statements (like the peculiar sentence "most of us hate Jews because the Jews persecuted us for years and are still out to conquer the Middle East and the rest of the Arab world").
Most of the hatred towards Israel does not hold reality or actuality; you may hear different reasons (most of them regarding politics) but in most of the cases the Anti-Semitism that has been instilled for years by the environment is pretty clear.

Israel has a history of violating agreements with their neighbours. Religion really isn't the basic issue here, though it doesn't help. The basic issue's are the terrible situation the Palestinians are in, the partiality of US support, the oil problems in the region. Water problems (Israel takes more than it's share of drinkable water). etc. This is NOT about religion in the first place, but about a conflict that is 50 years in the making and hasn't been solved yet.

Gosh, so many hateful messages on here! Here is my non-biases answer:

Neither religion (Islam or Judaism) teaches it's followers to hate the other religion, or kill followers of the other religion. Both are primarily very non-violent religions. Really.
However, every religion has some bad eggs, and sadly, those few bad eggs who are Muslims are making the rest of the world think that all Muslims are bad. It's just not true- we shouldn't generalize.
Basically, a long time ago, the area called "Palestine" (the Middle East) was home to both Arabs and Jews. They lived together peacefully.
However, the Jews suffered SO much persecution throughout history (check out a timeline of Jewish persecution on Google, you'll see what I mean) that the United Nations decided to make the Jews their own little sanctuary, just for them, so they couldn't be persecuted anymore. However, the stupid UN decided to make this new Jew-nation right in the middle of the Middle East! The Middle East's land was split up, giving about 5% of the land to make the new Jew-nation (Israel) and the rest of the land for the Arabs.
Of course, there were still both Jews AND Arabs living in all parts of the land (because the land used to be Palestine, where both groups lived peacefully). So there were some Arabs left in Israel, and some Jews left in Jordan (an Arab nation).
The Arabs stuck in Israel got full civil rights (they could have all non-government jobs, they got education, food, etc.). However, the Jews in Jordan were kicked out or killed.
Not so fair.
Now, Israel contained Jerusalem, which is a holy site for both Jews and Muslims. Muslims have many holy sites (Mecca and Medina both "belong" solely to Muslims, but of course the Muslims would like all 3 of their holy sites to belong to them). The Jews only have one main holy site- Jerusalem.
Let me stress again, the Muslims/Arabs are WELCOME to live in Jerusalem. They have full civil rights there.
However, the Muslims do not want to share Jeruslam, they want it all to themselves (along with Mecca and Medina, the other holy Muslim sites).

To go on, many Arab groups (government groups) initiate what they call "land-for-peace" trades with Israel. Supposedly, if Israel gives the Arab states some of its land, the Arabs will give peace. There have been 30 or 40 such trades (and no peace, obviously). You can think about the ethical issues involved with that ;)

For the MOST part, in my opinion, judging from these facts, it seems that the Arabs are the ones initiating the violence, and the Jews solely want a place for refuge.

I do not mean any disrespect to any Muslim people or Arab people, all of this is only referring to the governments of these countries. I know Muslims and Arabs are just as wonderful people as Jews.

Yes the religion of Islam teaches death to the Jews. Death to anyone that does not agree with he enants of Islam. The focus of the Middle East is to obliterate Israel and they will come close but it will never happen. It is a religious war.

Don't ever again lie to yourself and consider Israel representing Jews of the world. Be good .. I know many Jews who are against Israel and the people who are ruling Israel.

Jews living in freedom is an insult to Islam.

Islam creates "shame" based cultures. And Israel is a great source of shame for Arabs/Muslims.

The long history of Jews living in Arab lands is one of constant rape, expulsions, and massacres of Jews by Arabs. This is the norm that the Arab world wishes to have restored.

Nora, dear... why do you have it so twisted? no one came and took someones land! don't you know it by now? Jews purchased like 70% of that land! And took the rest after they were attacked by their neighboring countries!

Islam doesn't really teach "death to Israel." However most Middle Eastern Muslims especially ones in Palestine, Iran, and Saudi Arabia don't like the Zionists in Palestine and want it destroyed or at least taken back and given to the Palestinians. I'm a Muslim and I agree that Palestine should be given back to the Muslims. However Iran is the real big country that wants to wipe out Israel. Most of us hate Jews because the Jews persecuted us for years and are still out to conquer the Middle East and the rest of the Arab world. By the way it says in the Qur'an that we'll get Palestine back.
