Pope John Paul stated that the Catholic church accepted that evolution was a sound theory, so long as god infused humans with an immortal soul that could be saved, somewhere in the process.
YOU are busted.

The "Seven-days-of-creation" story in Genesis is amazingly consistent with the theory of evolution. Just shows how divinely inspired the sources of the scriptures really were.
I have a problem with your extreme judgmental pronouncement. My faith and salvation are not really your call. That is between me and God. The Bible is a book of Truth, not facts. The scriptures tell us about what God has done/is doing. Science, one of God's gifts to us, helps us begin to understand some of the ways God has done/is doing these things.
As you continue to try to mature in the faith, try to open your heart to the love and understanding of Christ. Celebrate that God has created us with bodies, spirits, emotions and minds.

No. I believe it is possible that each species developed from a common ancestor (all dog breeds from a single breed; all bears from a single bear), but there is too much evidence against the thought that we all evolved from a single ancestor. For one thing, it is impossible to breed a dog with a horse to get a new animal. It is impossible to breed a bird with a snake, etc. If that was possible, then evolution from a single ancestor would be possible. The ONLY exception is horses with donkeys to create mules...and I believe that it is possible that horses and donkeys came from a single ancestor.
Yes, I am a Christian. However, I have found that it is impossible to use the bible as a fact source when speaking with non-Christians. Therefore, I have chosen to speak on their terms.

The animals with souls idea is not fully laid out in Christianity. Some say they don't have souls, others do. I tend to think that they do - it seems to be the soul that is the "life force" that gives what would otherwise be a chunk of meat it's "life." In my thinking, we always had souls. But, does the soul of each critter match the critter itself? Are human souls different from dog ones? Or fish? That I couldn't say, but, it seems possible to me. I think that as our souls come from God, that each organism is given one to "fit" the physical body that it will live in. These ideas are my own, and not part of "official" Christianity, but, as far as I am aware, there is no official answer to your question.

I am just a lowly, secular, guy. I'll pass on arguing this one with you. I'll just hand you over to Pope John Paul 2, he found no difficulty in believing in evolution and the Church's teaching.
Ook.

I'm not denying any such thing. Christians (by definition) follow the example of Jesus regarding how we should treat each other and how we should pray and praise God. It does not mean Christians should become living zombies with no intellect or discernment.

I'm not even a Christian, I'm an atheist, but in cases like this I am glad to stand by them. For those that do happen to fit the concept of evolution into the realm of their beliefs, that is NONE of your business and what a LOW way of trying to bait them into this question!

Human beings did evolve from ape-like ancestors, but that is not a lower life form. It is like the development of a baby in the womb. The embryo is human from the very beginning, even though it changes form and shape. Our "ape-like" ancestors had souls as well, even though they had simpler forms than our own.

When I was younger and didn't know any better, I did. And even though I believe in creation, sometimes I wonder if we there were apelike creatures that evolved into us.
