there's a lot you can do to tame frizz and make your curls work for you, here are a few of my suggestions (being that I have the same hair texture and quality as yourself):
1) after showering, you could towel-dry it, comb it, and put it in jumbo velcro-rollers. Like, i mean the huge ones. These you can find at your local drug store, and you wait until your hair is dry (depending on hair type, mine takes 4 hrs which i know is a pain, but better than damaging it).... when your hair is dry gently take them out and you have frizz-free wavy curls!
2) after showering, you could comb your hair back tightly, and pull it into a tight pony-tail secured with an elastic. wait till your hair is dry, then remove the elastic and you'll have no frizz, but straightened hair all the way till the bottom of your ear, and the rest falls curly naturally. its very beautiful. works well with thick hair.
3) both of the above methods require patience, and a couple of hours on your hands after you shower. if you want something instant, you can towel-dry your hair after you shower and put either of these, i find they both work incredibly well: Lóreal vive-intense frizz free smoothing serum, approx 5$
or john frieda's brilliant brunnette starlit waves approx 7$
both can be found at your local drug store
here are the reviews on both:
Lóreal vive-intense anti-frizz smooth serum: http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemID=26344/Smooth_Intense_Anti-Frizz_Serum/L'Oreal/Styling_Products/
john freida's starlit waves : http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemID=75567/Brilliant_Brunette_Starlit_Waves/John_Frieda/Styling_Products/
Good luck! i hope this helped, i know its such a struggle at first but one you figure out how to work your thick curly hair you'll love it!

I'm not sure about drugstore products, except for the Herbal Essences "Hello Hydration" Shampoo conditioner system. If you're willing to spend a little more on a professional quiality product, go online and search for 'Ouidad' products. They're made specially for curly hair. Also, if you blow-dry your hair, use a diffuser (Can be found at many beauty supply stores)

I've got the exact same hair. To fight the frizz,I leave the conditioner in for around 20 minutes. And I don't wash it everyday. I do rinse it out everyday.

garnier fructise smoothing milk or leave in conditioner. It speciallizes in friz, and should keep your hair nice and smooth after showering. Also, you can use their curly hair shampoo. The smell is great, and you can find garnier anywhere for about 4 bucks a bottle. It's the lime green bottle. you can't miss it

hmmmm I would recommend using pantene, smooth and sleek. If you change your mind, go to a salon and ask for Osis Magic Creme, it works good. I bought mine for 15.90

frizz ease works pretty well. you just put it in your hair when its wet and air dry or blow dry with a diffuser.
