today I slipped a grocery plastic bag over my head, and sealed it around my neck so that no air gets in. in around a minute and a half I started seeing stars and my breathing is really strange! sort of like uncontrollable gasps. I was like..this is pretty cool. and a minute later I think my face was started to go numb, then I took the bag off

just wondering what would happen if I kept the bag on my head longer... like 20 minutes... is it possible to die?

once you used up all the oxygen in the bag, you began to breath in the carbon dioxide that replaced the oxygen.. the brain can live up to four minutes without oxygen before suffering damage.. if you were to fall through the ice of a frozen pond and be submerged you could actually survive longer.. because there would be no carbon dioxide intake.. once your air supply gave out and was expelled from the lung.. the brain shuts down all body functions in an effort to survive.. it is possible that in that situation you could live for from 20 to 30 minutes so long as the heart keeps beating.. as for you and your bag.. you are lucky that you did not pass out.. it wasn't the smartest thing to do.. next time just hold your breath.. other wise you can destroy brain cells..if you haven't already...and since you seem to be more curious than you are careful.. it is kind of easy for people to come to the conclusion that you are not the brightest light in the harbor... if you want your light to keep glowing...don't be stupid.. you will live longer if you remember to BREATHE

Yes! Of course it is possible to die. Its called suffacation. The world record for the longest time without air is under 10minutes andwas set by a person who trained almost constantly. I have heard that the average human can hold their breath for about 2 minutes, but most people I know start blacking out before then. I have held mine for 2:30, but when I came up I was purple.

First off your a complete retard and need to be shot in the face... Second a person can not survive w/o air for a long time i believe it is 3 minutes at max that a person can go w/o air unless your a suba diver or w/e and have had the proper training to control your breathing but even then its not much longer. And Yes it is very possible that youd die.

Highly trained divers can hold their breath for up to 8 minutes. They need to be able to do this for "free diving" to extremely deep depths. By holding their breath, they are able to dive to extreme depths and then surface without experiencing the bends. These divers train for years under close supervision. Even so, some have died as a result of this risky behavior. Don't put a bag over your head. If you want to experiment, just try holding your breath. If you do happen to pass out, your body will have the ability to start breathing oxygen again. If you pass out with a bag over your head, you will die. Here is a little advice for you:

LIFE IS TOUGH, IT'S TOUGHER WHEN YOU'RE STUPID

Space is an absolute vacumn, and is at approxiamtely 7degrees Kelvin (0 K being the lowest temperature possible). You would perish instantly. Good news, you would be freeze dried, and with no bacteria to break down your body, you would be preserved for ever (or as long as you float in space). Your blood would initially bubble (like having the bends when diving), because without pressure, the gases within your blood would expand.

from the sounds of this question you were starved of O2 for a quiet a while.

BUT on a serious note... yes you would DIE if you had a plastic bag on your head. the plastic stops air from getting to your lungs therefore you die in about 3 mintues. and not nicely either

take my advice stay away from plastic bags.

yeah. I don't think you could actually breath for that long. There maybe a gap around the bag you have. When I swim I can only hold my breath for about 40 seconds.

I hope you're not serious. But if you are, stop it. There is no EXACT number for each person, but... after 1 minute brain cells begin to die, after 2 minutes, serious brain damage is likely, in 10 minutes many brain cells die and you're likely to die and in 15 minutes... almost surely death.

Even if you don't value your life, others do and it's not fair to them that you go screwing with it.

of course you can die. You would probably pass out in about 3 minutes and die in about 5 minutes
