I am in need of two letters of recommendation. One from a teacher and the other from my high school guidance counselor. I have not seen either of them in quite a while as I have gone away to college. It has been several months since I have talked with them.

How might I start the letter without sounding rude. I cannot go and see them in person because I am several states away.

Thanks

Give particulars about who and why the letter is needed, such as, "I need this letter for an application to _______ college or university." Add details about what you intend to study there to help the teacher and guidance counselor decide how best to word the letter To make you sound as good as possible.
End with a sincere thank you in advance for the time and and kind words.
