my niece has recently been diagnosed with cp, my sister had an unidentified infection when she was pregnant even through blood tests the doc couldnt tell what the problem was, as infection in the mother can be a cause of cp i was wondering if maybe this was overlooked and if there are specific tests on expectant mothers that can be carried out to prevent cp or even treatment to stop the condition worsening, baby faith was 10 weeks prem, could this have been caused by the infection which in turn could have caused the cp? can you help us please?

faith has quite a severe case, her diagnosis went from maybe having a slight turn in her hand to my sister having to move to a modified house. faith will be 1 on 8th of feb and she still gets bathed as a newborn, we hav just been told that she will have a wheelchair and will not be able to attend a public school, she was diagnosed at 7 months and to be able to help her now we know she has cp is such a relief that we are happy to be able to do everything we can to give her a normal life as poss, although emotions are still running high and we feel we still need some answers to our questions. thanx for all of yours x

I do not know much about cerebral palsy but I know that premature babies are at a higher chance of being diagnosed with CP. May I suggest a website that may be able to help? Its a charity for premature babies:

Also there is a parent message board forum where the topic of CP comes up quite often.

best wishes to little Faith

My sister was born has cp, she was born 3 months early weighing only 3 lbs, they didn't even know she had anything till she was due to walk and could not. She only has a very mild case and from what I have seen in other cp cases there is really a wide difference in those that do have it.

being premature is not a cause of CP, I should know, I have the condition (although an exceedingly mild form of it) but you're child will forget they have it, I know I do, and it doesn't affect me at all!

Hope this helps
