A person may perform the Heimlich maneuver on himself or herself using the same procedure described above. One hand is balled into a fist and placed against their upper abdomen, while the other hand grabs the first and directs it in a series of upward thrusts until the airway is clear.

A person may also perform the Heimlich maneuver on himself or herself by leaning their upper abdomen against a fixed object (such as the back of a chair) and repeatedly thrusting their body downward against the object until they expel the obstruction. Usually, a person must jump in the air and fall onto the object to provide sufficient force. It is likely that one may break a rib or become severely bruised.

Good luck! I hope you don't have to perform it on yourself though... eat small and avoid choking. :-)

Yes you can. Place a chair back up against your abdomen, like where you would put your hands if you were doing this to another person, and then smartly press the chair into your gut. Many people have saved their own lives using this technique.

Ok So your alone and you start to choke from drinking something fizzy.
Now, you simply walk to a wall and bang your back onto it as hard as you can until you start breathing again!
If this saves anyone life you can buy me a beer.

No because you must be behind someone to perform it - anyway now we are not allowed to refer to it AS the Heimlich Manoeuvre , since his death his widow won`t allow it to be called after him.Now it must be referred to as the Abdominal Thrust .
TRUTH!

Yes, you just have to run into some sort of object that will put force on the same area another person would.
