This question may sound stupid and strange. But I'm just curious. You know them braces suppose to move the teeth but it's so tighten and so painful sometimes, In the future are they going to make your teeth weaker than your real teeth? For example, when you become old, is it more possibility that you can lose your teeth quicker than people who didn't had braces?

That's a valid question, but no, braces will not make your teeth weaker. Orthodontic treatment moves the teeth and jaws into correct alignment, and the wires pulling them into position can feel tight and painful at times, however they do nothing to weaken the tooth structure. Having braces does make taking care of your teeth (brushing & flossing) more difficult, and if the patient does not keep up on it and has poor oral hygiene, it will lead to decay. Decay obviously weakens tooth structure, but the brackets and wires themselves will not. Hope that answers your question! :)

Hi. I am about to get braces for the first time, but I have been really worried and done a lot of research on them. When you are old, You will not lose your teeth faster then others who did not have braces. People who didn't have braces are more likely to lose their teeth faster. This is because even though your teeth stop changing at age 18-19, there teeth will be crowded. There teeth will be so sore ( they can't feel it, but it happens ) their teeth get tired and then fall out. I have done so much research on braces because I get them in about two weeks or so. I am nervous, but I know in the end I will have a perfect smile. Well, not perfect because no one is perfect, but you know what I mean! In conclusion, your teeth will not fall out quicker then others who did not have braces. people who should of had braces, but didn't, their teeth will fall out a quicker. Hope this helps! ; )

I don't think so because your teeth slowly adapt to the movement and they grow strong again. I hope not, cause I have braces and I want my teeth 4 the rest of my life!

No question is silly if your honestly looking for an asnswer.
No it doesn't make a difference.
Take care of your teeth and they should stay strong. Sometimes it's better to have braces.

as long as you take care of your teeth braces will not make your teeth weaker. now if you go thru braces and get them off and dont take care of them... yes they will get weak. the key is good dental health. "Floss only the teeth you want to keep"

I always thought they would do the opposite and make them stronger. They put sooo much cement on there and can never get it all off. So you have that cement on there to protect from plaque. But no they won't make them weaker. I had them for 13 years and never have any problems with my teeth.

You know what? I was wondering the EXACT same thing... I was worried about it when I got my braces on, but I guess I will find out in about...60-65 years.
