Well I have been told to let my nephew continue to carry his blanket, and to suck his thumb. They say he will grow out of it, however, I disagree with them I think something needs to be done.
I just cannot get a straight answer. I have tried to talk to his mom but she just blows it off. Please someone with experience in this field help me I am worried about him.

Does he take it to school ? Is there anywhere he doesn't take it ? If so, figure out why and also convince him that he can live without the blankie. The thumb is actually in his control. I sucked my thumb until I was 8 and I turned out fine. At home etc., I think I would let him have the blankie if he needs it for comfort. It might be a power play to see who will win, ???

I agree with the answers above...first I commend you for being concerned but this is something that his parents has to see as a problem that they want stopped. Children carry a blanket around as a security element. Most children are "broke" from the blanket before school age due to most schools will not tolerate it.

This is what I would suggest..when he is napping or a school; whenever he is without the blanket take it and put it up. He will ask for it and more then likely cry but it is for his own good. Do not let anyone give in and let him have it. Also I would only try to get him to break one habit at a time. I had experience with the blanket myself with my youngest son. I hid his blanket when he was about 4 years old. I still have it but he does not need to know this until he is older. He is 8 years old now.

This is something that the parents need to take care of,
he is really to old for this, unless he has some sort of
mental condition.
