First of all, NEVER EVER buy a dog from a pet store. Reputable breeders do not sell their dogs through pet stores. Over 90 percent of the pet store dogs come from puppy mills, environments that are seldom ideal and sometimes horrible.
The best value is to get a dog from your local humane society or shelter. They have some purebreds (although I personally think mixes make great pets and often have less health issues) and usually have small dogs (although smaller dogs get chosen quicker than large dogs). You would also truly be saving a life. You could also contact your chosen breed's rescue group. You can use the internet to find a local contact.
P.S. I am a large dog lover, but my favorite small dogs are the italian greyhound and the cavalier king charles spaniel.

I definitely agree on going to the local humane society to adopt a puppy rather than support a breeder by purchasing one. There are already soooo many great animals that are looking for a wonderful home, and alot of times you can find the perfect one there. I adopted two of my purebreds from a shelter, one of which came in with a litter and was scheduled to be euthanized the next day because a breeder could not afford to take care of them. It would even be something special that you can take your daughter out to do, and let her pick out her favorite one. The shelter should give you a certificate for a free visit to the vets office as well as have your pet spayed/neutered and microchipped, which would be a great way to track your next puppy if it were to ever get lost or stolen. Please consider it!!

You should never even consider buying a pup from a pet store. Visit the shelters or look into the rescue groups and see if you can find a poodle or poodle mix or another small dog to adopt. Good luck.

hi, a chihuahua is round 3 to 5 lb, so that they could'nt be a lot heavier. Chihuahuas are chuffed to stay in apartments, or homes with little or no backyard, so convinced they can make a stunning good puppy, in spite of in case you get a chi x with a pomeranian, yet jack russels are terriers and decide better room, they're searching canines, so i for my area dont imagine they could be a suitable flow. Sorry if i affend people via putting forward that. A pom ought to even sense free and are loving canines only a similar as a chihuahua. desire this helps.

Try visiting the Humane Society, they only ask for a minimal donation for adoption, and the dogs are usually current in their vaccinations and spayed/neutered. Otherwise, you might want to check the local paper under the Pet ads in the classifieds.

I am sorry to hear about your daughters dog being stolen...I hope it was fixed.
Not many breeders will be selling their dogs "cheap". Check out this site it only service the Midwest like Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Your best bet is to keep an eye out on your local news papers and looking on line. here is another web site that you can look at
www.gotpetsonline.com
Good luck

have you tried the area SPCA or humane society, they usually adopt out dogs for a lot less than you can buy one since all you have to pay is a low cost adoption fee and you will be giving a deserving dog a second chance at a loving home.

I would suggest trying the pound or an adoption agency to get a cheap dog or maybe see if you have a friend with a dog with puppies willing to give one of them to your daughter.
