The behaviour you describe doesn't necessarily mean she's using drugs, other possibilities could include, a change in her diet, depression, malnutrition, lack of sleep. Drugs is always a possibility, but not always the answer. Why don't you sit down with her and talk to >her< ... Wouldn't that be the best way to find out what's going on?

Could be. People react in different ways and it depends on the drug(s) she may be using.
I would try to talk to her. If you used to be close, maybe u can.
She sounds kinda depressed honestly. Maybe a switch in friends has triggered this withdrawn behavior. Maybe she is just trying to figure out who she really is. 17 is a rough age.
Whatever the case, you seem very concerned and I think u should be the one to approach her since u two used to be close.
She certainly has some signs of drug use, but there are many more.
I think its great you have concern for your sister. You are a good brother and I hope all works out for you both.

You shouldn't try and control your sister, let her make her own mistakes, just make sure her child is not the victim in all of this. Make sure she feels loved and accepted. Being abandoned by your mom can cause some self hatred probelms and make her feel unloved when she gets older. I agree with what the other person said. The military is no place for people who are mentally ill, they are mentally abusive in their tactics of training and anyone that isn't stable could be pushed over the edge easily. It's just not a healthy enviroment. At some point they will figure out what is going on with her, they will etiher force treatment on her or cut her loose (dishonerable discharge).

It is drug use or poor eating and exercise, or all.
It is not easy to watch your older sister make poor choices.
Best thing you can do is LEARN from it and never do it or involve yourself in that lifestyle. I pray your sister is not using drugs and maybe into death metal too much. It is hard to evaluate and difficult for you to have to deal with. If you choose to confront her be careful not to sound as if you are judging her or attacking her.
You might explain to her how much you love her and look up to her and need her to remain in your life. You will love her and not like what she is choosing to do to herself by using/experimenting with drugs. Try to keep it between just the two of you unless it changes into a more serious situation. Be real with how you feel.

Depression will drastically decrease the appetite causing sickly looking appearance too. I would talk to your parents. Haven't they noticed the change in her behavior?
Either way, she needs help to overcome whatever it is. you are wise to be concerned. Does she have any close friends that may give you a clue?

It could be drugs, but she may also be depressed, or going through some sort of personal crisis. (she is a teenager, after all)
Try asking her what's wrong, telling her you are a bit worried, to see if she opens up to you.
Tell her that you are willing to listen to her problems, that you are there for her.
If she doesn't want to talk about it, don't push it. Wait for a while and if she is still worrying you, then try talking to your parents about it.
