That she may have low self esteem. It has nothing to do with how she feels about you.

Well if she puts herself down she might actually mean it (sometimes not the case) or she can be fishing for compliments. This however doesn't mean she is interested in you or sees you as a friend but maybe all she wants is someone to boost her ego.

A lot of women just do it to fish for compliments. But a lot also put themselves down just because they feel that way about themselves. If she has a regular habit of being shy, or awkward, or has an inferiority complex--the latter would be true. But you haven't given me enough information to know for sure. How does she usually act? Is she generally confident or upbeat? Most women hide their feeling, and that's no good for men. Most of you can't pick up on subtle cues (I understand how you feel btw; I have a disorder that makes me more like a guy).

She may have self esteem issues, or she just enjoys the attention that she gets when she does this. The only real way to find out if she's interested in you is to take the chance and ask. If she turns you down let her know that although you may have feelings for her you wont let them get in the way of your friendship, and go from there. Good luck!

Compliment her if she does put herself down. It usually comes out that she was fishing for a comment.

well, if you compliment her and she says something negative about it, she might be trying to not be vain. but if she puts herself down before you compliment her, she is searching for compliments.

It's hard to say without knowing more. The tone of her voice should clue you in on if it's true or for compliments. Either way, how irritating!

Could be a form of manipulation ... the old "poor me ... feel sorry for me" strategy. Some people like being a martyr. Then again she might have a genuine lack of self-esteem. Hard to tell.

if she puts herself down in front of you, she is looking for your approval and reassurance. if she says something about her appearance like "I feel/ look so fat/ugly" DO NOT say "you look fine" because that is not addressing her feelings. say something along the lines of "On your worst day you're still the most beautiful girl in the room". It shows you recognize that she needs reassurance and that you like her no matter how she looks... try to address her on a personal level on these matters. if she is pleased with what you say, she is definitely interested in you ;)

I agree that she is fishing for compliments. I generally make it a point to NEVER compliment people like that.

it could be that she is fishing for compliments or maybe she has low self esteem but more than likely she does it because she likes you and she wants to know what you think about her :)
