SOMEONE can always color your hair. If your stylist isn't available y not go to someone else in the same salon because they have access to your formula...ask your stylist who they recommend because your in a pinch and they can't help you. No one should be mad about that, especially if you go right back to her the next time-us hairdressers know how terrible it is if your stuck without haircolor....I think one would scold you if you did at home haircolor though. If the color you are using is darker than your natural haircolor-the roots or whatever it is now...there is no way you need 30 or 40 vol.!!!! when you go darker you can even use a 5 volume or semi permanent. the developer is designed to lift in haircolor, if your just depositing a darker color than those are not necessary. Standard is 20 though, you especially need 20 if you have gray...but don't use 30 or 40..it's unnecessary damage. trust me!!! but please see a pro...any pro...: )

If you are wanting to darken your hair, you need to go with 20 vol. developer because 30 or 40 is more for lifting than depositing. (I've been doing hair for 14 years) BE CAREFUL!!!!!

I dye my own hair and believe it is in better shape than when I paid $100 plus to the stylist. Try Gaunier Nutriesse [not sure of the exact spelling].

Don't do it. Ask a friend to suggest a good hair stylist. You will eventually ruin your hair. Better to have it professionally done..be patient..it took me many hair dressers to find a good one. It's like finding a good doctor.

well 40 is good but eather way you keep dyeing ur own hair it will most likely end up falling.... it may not fall right away but in a few year it could fall little by little

I believe 20 would be the best. I'm pretty sure the stronger the volume the more it lightens..Good luck!
