Check these pictures. I just got an emo style haircut I love it.
My hair is about shoulder length. I part it on the side and its cut really layered and choppy at the bottom. My bangs are cut slanted, Angling downwards and blends in the the rest of my hair.

Personally im not an emo kid but i know they usually have black hair so go for black and maybe side bangs. Also straighten it.
But as long as you have the black in there i think people will consider it emo

slightly layered in front with a side part so that the shorter layers slightly hide one of your eyes. Black hair is also a must.

try a pixie cut, longger shag cut or a drop cut
drop cuts are where it gets longer as you head toward the back of the head
