To be honest, puppies can take a year to potty train! Just keep up with the training and positive re-enforcement, and things will come together eventually!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL2mk
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

You're expecting too much of a four month old puppy - would you expect a four month old child to be properly potty trained?
Crate training is a good potty training tool - dogs generally do not go to the toilet where they sleep, therefore they learn to control their bladder by holding it until they get outside. However, you will need to ensure that you do take pup out every couple of hours, until pup can control his bladder for the entire night.

Lol Puppies can be like children some take longer than others. I used the dog training pads , near the door, and they worked like a charm. Take her out first thing in the morning and last thing at night and of course praise praise praise. One has to have a watchful eye on the animal at all times. I guess the key here is patience and lots of it. Good Luck

We were taught that every time the time wakes up from a nap and get's done eating its meal you take the puppy outside. And that is how we got our dog potty trained. I can't remember how long it took our Boxer. But training your dog to do that will help to get your dog potty trained.
When to take your Dog outside:
Each time After puppy eats. And
Each time After puppy wakes up.

Hi Christene :)
I guess the "training by paprika" failed ehh? (saw that on one of your comments "How to house train a puppy")
But anywho... I don't know what type of dog you have (intelligence level) cause some dogs take a bit longer to get trained.
Also, I don't know what all you have tried doing to correct his potty habits. But here is what I did with my big moo-cow, and she was actually trained in one week.
But I ran her nose through it... No matter what it was that she did, she got a nose full of it then I put her outside.
I hope this helps if you have not done this trick... :)

You are going to have to put him in a cage and when he is out put puppy pads all over the place...he won't soil his cage as dogs do not like to poop or pee where they sleep. They don't like to soil their litter. Take him out often when he is awake so he get used to going outside
Go to library or pet store as there is a ton of information on this as well as the internet.
If you are patient and do a little work your puppy will conform and for Gods sake don't rub his nose in the poop..that is not going to work and you will just be cruel to a dumb animal and he won't know why you are doing this anyway. Would you like your nose rubbed in doo doo when you were potty trained? would you do this to your child or grand child.nooo

I got my puppy when she was 6 months old. At first i took her outside almost every hour. If she ever did her business i gave her a treat. Its ben about a month now and she barks by the door whenever she wants to go out. I still give her treats for that though because she asked to go outside and didnt go in the house.

I bet your puppy is a cutie. Sometimes it makes you crazy trying to house break them. I took ours out every two hours day and night. But I didn't work. You could keep him in a pet cage at night. They work well. Just when I thought I couldn't takeit anymore he decided he would catch on. Keep on trying Good Luck
