When I was in middle school, i had acne and throught the years I hae picked at it, and it has left me with scars all on my face. They aren't that bad, but they bother me. Right now I use Retin A Micro and it lightened them considerably, but this summer I have to take my Senior picture this summer and I want to try and get my face cleaar. So anything on fading scars? My mom said I shouldnt use anything else since I'm using Retin A, but of course I don't listen lolll

And I'm going to the dermatologist in the spring, but that seems so far away. But yeah, any advice would be great. Even on a good concealer too. (right now i use a Mac concealer).

Oh, and I was just at CVS and saw a scar fading mask by Neutragina, is that any good?

Thanks!

Retin A is a very good product that will help fade your scars in time. Besides the use of this, whoever told you that Vitamin E would help was right. From first hand experience, I've used it on facial scars and scars elsewhere (elbow, legs) and it does work.
It even worked on deeper chicken pox scars I had as a kid!

It would be a nice supplement to your Retin A regimen as it will not interact with it badly and it is not expensive at all. If you use Vitamin E Oil (available at CVS), apply it after the Retin A is absorbed into your skin (best after your shower) and make sure you get the ones labelled 12,000 or 15,000 I.U (stands for International Units). If you go any higher, the oil is simply too thick to be effectively/efficiently absorbed by your skin.

One thing you can do to help speed up the fading process is to use what I call my "face towel facial." It will work slower than a chemical peel or microdermabrasion but the results are similar and you will see the difference.

Using a face towel with a mild cleanser (like Nivea, Cetaphil or other similar product) in the shower will clear away dead surface skin. Use some pressure but do not rub so hard that you hurt yourself. It takes some practice to find out what amount of pressure is right for you (I've been known to scrub too hard in the past - heh, heh) but it does work. This is a good life-long habit to develop as it helps maintain clear skin.

As your Retin A works, the face towel method will help slough away the dead skin and work with the Retin A and Vitamin E to encourage newer, healthier, clearer skin to emerge.

Please use the concealer as a last resort. If you do, make sure you clean your skin well afterwards. Otherwise, this might lead to blackhead problems.

As for your Neutrogena question, I find that their products are generally very good so using their fading mask might help, too.

Just know that you are more critical of what you see in the mirror. What we see as hideous scars may be unnoticeable to others looking at us. THINK and FEEL beautiful so that you radiate "beautiful."

So, good luck in your "pretty-ficating" efforts :)
I know you will look absolutely gorgeous in your Senior picture...

Depends on what kind of scars you have and what products you chose. If you only have red marks, these are not scars; just hyperpigmentation. They will likely fade on their own within the next 6-7 months if you wear a good spf regularly. You will experience prolonged redness from your acne marks if you're using things like BP or taking cycline antibiotics. Similarly, if you chose a glycolic acid that contains alcohol, you will experience more redness because alcohol is an irritant (its also bad for your skin). If you have real scars on the surface of your skin glycolic acid isn't gonna much but help with the redness. Either way, I'd chose Retin A or a retin over glycolic acid for both these things. Even BHA might be better for you because it penetrates even further into the pore than glycolic acid (so it helps with acne while doing the same thing). Try Neutrogena's Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating treatment. It contains nothing that can damage your skin. *oh, and yeah, some people DO experience initial breakouts with these products. This tends to happen with ANY acne treatment because really, the only way to treat or "cure" acne is to PREVENT it from forming in your skin in the first place (and that's what these products help with).

It takes away redness too. I also use Benza Clin. To get this though u have to talk to your doctor and its a perscription that takes away the acne soo easily and keeps it away. Its about 40$ for 50g a little expensive but it works and the other stuff is less than 10$.
