Do not make me laugh.

Only one assault weapon from WWII is still in our armed forces today. And, has not been manufactured for over 40 years.

The M3A1 Grease Gun.

Lee AK-47 was not made until 1947 so was not used in WWII since WWII ended on August 14, 1945.

The M1 Garade is a rifle, but not an "assault rifle" as we use the term today. It was best at long range work and was very accurate, to the extent they used it as a sniper rifle right up to Vietnam. (Maybe even today.)

The two biggest characteristics that disqualify it from the "assault rifle" definition we use to day is:
#1. It is pretty big and heavy. Assault rifles are short and light.
#2. It used a full size 30-06 round. Assault rifles use smaller rounds.

It was a far better rifle than the M-16, yet the M-16 is considered an assault rifle. Go figure.

I preferrred the other M1 - the Garand LOL.
It was better than your "grande".
However the Russian Ppsh-41 was an awesome assault weapon ,so much so many Germans preferred it to their issued weapons.
Despite the fact that the AK was developed AFTER WW2 it WAS based on the German assault rifle the MP43 (Sturmgewehr 43) which had the potential to be a great weapon.

The M-1 Garand was the best rifle. Best assault weapon falls into 2 categories: Light and Heavy

Light: Browning Automatic Rifle (aka the BAR)

Heavy: The Ma Duece (.50 cal machine gun.)

The M-1 was a rifle. It was probably the best rifle used during the war.

No not at all, a semi- automatic rifle should never be called an assault weapon. The gun was too big and cumbersome for a typical assault operation.

the mp44, by the germans, it was the very first assault rifle in the world, it packed a punch and it, as an assault rifle could, could be switched from automatic fire to semi automatic with a flip of a switch

The single best assault rifle of WWII ... so good it is still used all over the world even today, is the AK47.
