I know it depends on how many people are coming to the party & what you are planning to do. But I'm curious to see what people generally spend on a birthday party.

My son is going to turn 1 in a month & I'm starting to plan for his birthday party:)

I think going a little overboard for the 1st birthday is ok. They are only one once. Buy a cake for the adults, and ask around to see if anybody will give you a smash cake for the baby for free. We really did our sons birthday up. But i guess its all in what you can afford.

I spent about $25 on my daughter's first birthday party . I had ver few guests, (a friend and her two kids who played with my daughter) my mother, sister, and niece. Purchased a cake for about $10.00 and paper plates/napkins/plastic utensils. There is no need to go "all out" for a first birthday, the child doesn't remember it and they don't like all of the attention anyway, usually wind up cranky and miserable. It's best to keep it small, low key and short. Most of her parties were held at a local McDonald's playland where it cost about $35.00 for everything, cake/icecream/happymeal and clean up. This year it is costing me MUCH more. Dinner out, with wine of her choice, a two hour trip to the theatre to see the Revised Shakespeare Company and then a "snack" after the theatre....All in all over $100.00...She just turend 21

I think the first birthday is a special one. We just invited family and I cooked spagetti. We got two cakes, one for him and one for everyone else. I bought some decorations and that's about it. We bought a t-shirt that said "1st birthday" and the other thing that is special for me, was a birthday candle. It is marked 1 - 18 and you light it every year during the birthday party to burn it down to the next number. My husband had one and it was very important to him. It became important to me because of that.....

This year we are going to Chucky Cheese on his birthday (just family) then the weekend after we are having a party here with some kids his age.

A one year old's party is mostly for everyone else. I had family parties for each of my three kids and spent less than $70. I now spend anywhere from $150 to $300 not counting gifts(ages 2-9). Probably the best part of our kids first birthdays are the pictures we have of them happily covering their selves with cake as they eat it.

For a one year old I wouldn't spend much at all. A cake, maybe a balloon and family. A big party would be overwhelming at that age. You can easily end up with a teary birthday boy who isn't enjoying his day. Keep it simple at that age.

I think we are going to spend about $88 - $110 on my 8 year old's party this year. We'll probably spend similar on my soon to be 6 year old's very first "friend" party. My youngest will just have a family party when she turns 4 next week.

(Presents are on top of those numbers.)

Well, I have 3 kids and I generally try to spend about $100 per birthday not including the decorations!!! Or the party (if necessary!) but the max that I spend is $150.00, (for my 9-10 year old!!!)

A big party is EXTREMELY overwhelming for a one year old. Just invite a few family members and have cake and ice cream. We had a huge party for my son and he was cranky and scared of everyone starring at him! If you have lots of family split it up into 2 parties. Save your money for older birthdays!! Have fun!

A party for a one year old is a ridiculous waste of money. If you are fine with being wasteful, go for it. He is not going to know what's going on and he won't remember any of it. Bake him a cake and let him get nice and messy and have some family members over. That's all you need.

I guess it depends how much you have to spend. Don't get in dept over it. If you supply the food and games there will probally be enough presents from the friends and family

way too much. Luckily my father was in town for my son's 1st birthday and insisted on paying for a huge dinner (this was his idea, not mine)

For his 2nd birthday we spent about $200, ditto on his 3rd. This is not including presents
