why are we here? Destiny? A divine purpose? Or is it just plain old reproduction?

I'm just interested in different points of views and the reasoning behind them.

Thank you.

we are here to experience life, and to learn.

there are many things that a mortal can do that the immortal soul cannot do. many experiences to be had, so that when we go on to the next life we will ahve an understanding of what it is to be mortal.

I'm an atheist. I believe that we are here because by some freak chance the Big Bang happened, and one thing led to another, and through evolution the human race finally popped up. It may seem like just reproduction got us here, and for the most part it is, but there is also a small amount of luck, and at this point it's intelligence that's keeping us around. Although, whether or not we'll be destroyed because of the damage we've done to our environment or because we're such a self-destructive bunch is another matter entirely.

A person cannot deny the Lord and still live successfully. Mankind was created to acknowledge God and share a relationship with Him. When someone chooses to ignore the truth of His existence or His sovereignty, he or she begins a downward slide. It's a choice which ends with a hardened heart and eternal separation from a loving Father.
God gives everyone the capacity to understand Him and the free will to choose whether to pursue that knowledge. The truth of His existence is revealed in nature and written into every person's conscience. However, many people ignore reality because it interferes with their preferred lifestyle. Instead, they chase false philosophies, which are usually mixed with just enough truth to make them believable to the inexperienced.
Any "truth" crafted by man is foolishness. A mind that has rejected the fact of a sovereign Lord cannot see its error. It has slipped from intelligence--an inherent knowledge of God--to willful ignorance. In this state, even when all evidence points to the truth, a person can still convince him- or herself that the opposite is right.
All the denial and atheistic arguments in the world will not change what is real. Jehovah is God. Jesus Christ is His Son. God created you to love, obey, and honor Him. If you resist the truth, you choose a life of darkness and willful ignorance. The choice is yours to make.
God invites you to see if He is better than all that the world has to offer. Psalm 34:8 challenges us to "taste and see that the Lord is good." Will you taste and see?

What is it about the human species that makes us ponder such things in so much detail and gives the answers so much weight?

Do you think chickens discuss things like this? Dogs, cats, horses, pigs, or cockroaches? What is it about US that makes us think we're so special that we MUST have a better reason for existing than anything else on the planet?

I'm here to learn and be the best person I can be, and after that I suppose I'll find out what's next. How about you?

I just put an ad in herer questioning about religion,, i'd like to know why people walk around saying they beieve in God, but are they really believing or are they just using God as an excuse? I feel sorry for him bcus they take advantage of life itself day in-day out, well can't they see that there trtuly is a war out there in Black n White, really religiously, im no preacher and not very relgious but this bothers me daily, Why are people so hypocritical then if they say they beive in God, they are blasphemers and betray God everyday b4 him without realizing it what is it showing our children? those that hadnt read the entire bible, which i think should be read over again a few timz as it clearly states God wont accept Hypocrites in heaven, nor will he fogive those who betray him and are sinners and a hypocrite, so why are there so many judging each other and taking advantage of life around them?? Don't they believe in him? or are they just using him and prefer to go to Hell???

We could say we are here for many reasons, but really there is only one reason, that is to worship God. If we do that, we will do good, have faith and get to heaven. In Relevation 19:10 it is said:

10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The Holy Bible : King James Version. 1995 . Logos Research Systems, Inc.: Oak Harbor, WA

Our destiny is what is set out for us. Not all of us follow the destiny of God. Reproduction is a part of life. We do it to further populate the earth, another command God gave Adam.

According to my beliefs...

We are hear to learn, have fun, love, experience life, and become better people through our experiences on earth.

When we die, we get to look over this life and see how we did. Then we can come back and live another, different life with the people we love. (Kinda like a universal version of playing house, "Now you be the daddy, and I'll be the mommy, and we will live in North Africa, and I want a pony!")

We are here because God had love to give. Our purpose is to share in that love and spread it to all mankind. In order to know God we must learn how to accept love as well as how to give love. Once love is fulfilled in every heart the Kingdom of Heaven will become a reality for all.

My favourite answer to why we are here is, "To live".

It doesn't matter what you believe, what it comes down to is that we are given an allotted number of years in this body of ours and we are given free will.

We should grab life by the horns and live it! Got an ambition? Make it happen. Not spoken to someone in a while? Give them a call!

It's all about making the time we have on Earth count.

divine purpose and plain old reproduction are both true.

the LDS church teaches that we come to earth to get a body as opposed to those who will never be born.
we are here by what is termed to be the plan of salvation,

Adam and Eve were created for God's glory, so in tern, all humans can be used (the good way) for God's purposes.
We all have a destiny set by God, but we have our own free will. God's plan is better though.
We (our bodies) got here through reproduction, but our souls were personally created by God, as He created the perfect soul for the body it was put into.

You're welcome.
