Because God is just.
Think really hard about it.
Not to appease himself, but the Law. The Law of God demands that the disobedient be put to death. If this were not the case, the Kingdom of God would be overrun with violence and corruption, and the Law would be a sham, a mockery -- eternal life would not be worth living.
And since all people have disobeyed the Law of God, all are worthy of death.
But God is also merciful. He has provided a way for us to escape the death penalty without circumventing the Law. Jesus can die in our place.
Justice punishes those who hate the way of peace; mercy saves those who love it.

I gather from one of the previous responses that you have asked a similar question before. I can only assume that you were not satisfied with the answers you received so decided to try your luck again. Don't expect anything to be different this time as most of the respondents are either a) atheists or, b) fundamentalist Christians. (Not sure which are worst!).
All I can say is that, a truly divine being (ie God) would never sanction a blood sacrifice (human or animal). Jesus did not die on a cross to save us from our sins. Rather, his death and resurrection, show us the power of unconditional love and forgiveness. We can all achieve what Jesus did, but only by living as he did and by relinquishing our ego.
God didn't send a human sacrifice. End of story.

Mankind's need for a ramson (sacrifice) came about thru the rebellion in Eden. Adam sold himself to do evil for selfish pleasure and became a sinful transgressor. He now had a condemned standing with God. He essentially sold himself and his descendants into sin and death.
The Law, provided for animal sacrifice as a covering for sin. However, animals were inferior to man could not suffice for such a large transgression . Animals are imperfect and therefore, a human capable of redeeming man would be needed. That man was Jesus.
It was God's justice not an attempt to appease himself. It was God's love that permitted him to sacrifice his son...Romans 5:8.

In Genesis 3:21, the practice of blood sacrifice, to cover the knowledge that sin brought with it, is established. Much of The Law centers around the proper sacrifices for specific sins.
God cannot stand in the presence of sin, yet HE desired to have fellowship with man. So He established blood sacrifice as a means of atonement.
You should want to know a God like that because He has gone to great lengths be able to have fellowship with you, and offer you a chance to inherit His promises.

The most serious and unintended effect of Adam's original sin was the enslavement of mankind to Satan, sin, and death.
God rightly required man to atone for man's own offense.
Because the devil had acquired legitimate domain over mankind due to Adam's freely comitted sin, God couldn't just come in and take away what now "belonged" to Satan.
Jesus' death resolved all these issues at the same time:
1) Satan and his minions were responsible for putting Christ to death. And since no one, not even the devil, had the authority to take the life of a sinless man, let alone the only son of God, Jesus' death justified God's destruction of Satan's evil dominion.
2) Jesus was truly man, so his atonement accrued to the benefit of all mankind. Man atoned for man's own offense.
3) Since God had always intended man to obtain redemption and forgiveness of sins, he was pleased with Jesus' great work. Jesus was subsequently installed as the new head of all mankind. God's wrath was indeed appeased, and turned to grace.
I appreciate God's sense of justice and fairness, and his willingness to sacrifice himself for us, in spite of our many failings.
You should too.
Think really hard about it.

Dear Cloe, I would like to deonstrate why God had to send Jesus, by givivng you the "Good Person Test" ready?
1.) Would you Consider yourself to be a Good person?
A. have you ever lied?
B. have you ever stolen something?
C.have you ever looked at someone in lust? (adultery of the heart)
D. have you ever used Gods name in vain?
The BIble says God will Judge you and I by the standard of the Ten Commandments. God by nature is Holy, and on that Judgement day he wil require perfection in thought word and deed, so lets reveiw your answers. If you have said yes to these four questions, then by your own admission, your a lying theiving blapshemous adulterer at heart. Unfortunately, that is How God will see you as well. He requires Moral perfection and must punish sin, the punishment for sin is death and Hell. the good news is that Christ died for you. You broke the Law, but Gods wrath was poured out upon Jesus, instead of you and I. He took alll of sin (past, present and future). You must recieve the gift of salvation by invitation, How do you do this? Repent (turn from sin) and put your ful faith and trust in Christ. the Moment you do God will forgive you and grant you the gift of eternal life. Not because we deserve eternal life, But because we were created by an extremely merciful God, who's will is that None should perish. God loved you so much, he volunteered to leave the comforts of heaven and stretch out his arms and die.
God Bless

Because you are having the wrong ideas about God! It's not about an angry God, but about a holy God. For man to enjoy intimate fellowship with God, man must be made holy. And since man is impotent to do that on his own, then God must provide for that.

God did not have to appease Himself- He sent Jesus to die for us, because WE SINNED AND FELL SHORT OF HIS GLORY. I want to know a God that loved me so much that He chose to have a relationship with me, even though I turned my back on Him, and because of my sin, He had to send His son. There is no salvation without the shedding of blood- that shed blood was for you, not to appease God.

You have already asked that question and it has been answered. No matter how many different times you try to ask that question, the answer will be the same.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

God is a God of infinite love and infinite righteousness. To rebel or sin against God is to rebel against His character and His kingdom.
To show forth both His love and His righteousness He sent Jesus into our world to be that perfect sacrifice - showing His perfect love AND fulfilling His perfect righteousness to the world.
lots more to say but i gotta go....
god bless
