What should I save my scans as-TIFF, PNG, or BMP?
I was using jpeg, but then hear of generational degradation and that TIFF is better for editing. But some people prefer PNG or BMP. Too bad my camera only does jpeg. =(

What are their strengths and weaknesses? Does it even make a difference?

Wondering,

John

Tiff has a lot more of the original info, useful for editing. It is a large file. PNG is a more recent compressed image file. It has less info for editing. Same for Jpeg. Some cameras also do RAW which has all the original info.
It depends what you ar doing with the images whether any of this matters.
If you are scanning some stuff for archiving, then go with the smaller compressed files. Same for casual photos that you just want to look at on your pc.
If you plan on extensive photo editing with photoshop, then save as tiff for the scanner and RAW for the camera.

What camera do you use? Would be good if it could save in raw format. If not, save your edits as tif files. They are lossless. JPG degrades when you resave - the degradation is only noticable in gradients like a blue sky etc although if you open and resave many times, other areas of the image will degrade noticably too.

I think the Zune is better. It has more features, and it enhances every song. I've owned an Ipod Video for 2 years and just got a Zune and I love the Zune. Now I wish I'd rather have 2 Zunes than an IPod Video.
