I am having trouble with The Sims?

whenever i attempt to make a family the game (crashes i guess) and exits to the desktop screen.How do i fix this? I went to the website and they said something about removing skins from the skin folder, but i don't know where that is located.

Personally it sound like you do not have enough RAM to support the game.
The game will chrash when it can not run fast enough.
