I'm in the US Air Force and stationed in Germany, so I can help you a little with this question.

Obviously, everyone here speaks German, but the different regions of Germany have slightly different dialects. So, the German they speak around Hamburg in the north is a little bit different from the German they speak in Bavaria in the south.

Many Germans study English in school, and many Germans know at least a little bit of English. However, not nearly as many people know English here as in other countries I have visited. I think the main reason for this is that in Germany all movies and television shows not originally in German are dubbed into German before they are shown. The countries where the citizens really seem to speak and understand English are always the ones that subtitle their movies and television shows instead of dubbing them.

We live right up against the border with the Netherlands, and I'm surprised at how few Germans around here know any Dutch. Many Germans who live right up against the border don't speak a word of Dutch, even though that's the language their neighbors speak one block down the road. A German friend of mine told me that this is because Germans are very proud of their language, and so they expect their neighbors along the borders to learn to speak German rather than the other way around.

The languages that seem to be spoken most by Germans who know a second language are French and English.

I hope this helps.

There are several fashions of the German language. Hoch Deutsch, is what we could call standard German the language that unites all germanic dialects. Plattdeutsch is still spoken in Schleswig Holstein and Ost-Frisische Islands. Niederdeutsch or Low German has several dialects like Turinger (from Turingia)

I'm a German major, so I can help you! All throughout the German world, there are many German dialects. Also, there are many Turkish immigrants/descendants in Germany, so Turkish is not uncommon. Of course, all of them learn English in school.
