yes, because you signed a bank contract stating that you agreed to pay an agreed upon sum as a down payment. the dealership can send you to collections if you refuse to pay the down payment.

i would however ask that they do something for you for your inconvenience of having to drive back to the dealership due to their mistake.

They'll just add it to your monthly payment. They always get their money.

Of course not. When they ask for it, just show them your receipt for it. You don't have one? Well, I guess that means you didn't pay them. So pay them. Remind me never to get in any business deal with you.
