Hi all, I need to solder a dc connection on my laptop. I bought a soldering gun from wally worl and it comes with solder but no flux. I didn't see and flux there also. Do I need it for this job? Also someone suggested to epoxy over this joint to help solidify it from future breakage. Thanks JM

Do not use flux on electrical connections - it will corrode at the joint because of the acid content of the flux/cleaner.
That's why plumbers always wipe their pipe joints clean with a damp cloth after soldering.

The solder that came with your iron is most probably electrical solder, and, as such, already contains a rosin flux.
Note - be sure to clean the connections good before you solder them.

Electrical Solder Flux

Electrical solder comes with the flux in it, which is rosin. You can buy it with out flux in it. I use a .062 dia. 60/40 Rosin-core, with a pencil soldering iron. You can buy it at Radio Shack, in a 1 pound spool for around $12.00 it will go a long way.

Rosin core solder is what I use for electric stuff. You don't need flux, but need to clean the connections.

Electrical solder has flux built into it, so you don't need to add any more.

Always use rosin based flux and NOT acid.
