If you want little shreds, you can use a cheese grater. If you want bigger pieces, like ribbons, you can use a veggie peeler to get nice wide curls of chocolate.

All you need is as bar or more of chocolate (Semi sweet, sweet, unsweet, or whatever), and a potatoe peeler or cheese grater. Why does the chocolate have to be cold? Because the warmer teh chocolate, the sooner it melts. And it will get on your fingers. But once the cold chocolate garnishing is on your deserts, it doesn't matter. But don't hurry, because if you do, you might end up grating or peeling your fingers or thumb. OUCH! you don't want that. I know, from experience.

First you need a really cold, if not frozen, bar of baking chocolate. Dark or Milk, your choice. Then take a vegetable peeler and just peel it over the chocolate. Long strokes create those round curls, short strokes create those nice little flakes. Hope this helps.

use a cheese grater, the kind that has 4 sides to it, that way you can choose the size of curl you want. the reason the chocolate should be cold is because it's easier to work with than room temp. if anyone else is reading this:why do we call it a cheese grater? i use it to grate anything i want to grate. even my eggs for egg salad sandwiches.

With cold chocolate bar and a vegetable peeler. That's for the small flaky pieces.
For big rolled shavings you use warm or room temp chocolate bar and vegetable peeler.
Practise, practise. eat all the mistakes... ha ha
Best of luck,

You can use a food peeler for curlier cuts. Just take a chocolate bar and start peeling. Also, try it on a fine grater.

Easy! Just use a grater especially made for chocolate or one made for hard cheeses.
