Buy platinum and cubic zirconia. Tell her it's platinum and diamond. They are practically the same thing anyways, and she will never know the difference.

yes, i understand the moral behind it, but also it depends on what type of person she is, and if she feels the same way. would she be cool with something simple? i know i would not b/c i would have this ring forever and i would want to show it off, i would defiantly want a platinum diamond ring. Also, you don't have to but it here in America you can always buy a diamond from Switzerland were the diamonds are not form African and the whole blood sweat thing. There is such a thing as buying a diamond that was not from blood, and u can research it more there are actually diamond companies that guarantee that there diamonds did not come from the diamond war industry, so it just requires some research on your part and most likely more money.

Hmm...depends.
If you were just being stingy and didn't want to shell out the money it takes to buy a diamond, then it would be a HUGE problem!
But if your moral reasons are a honest reason for your descision, then i think your girlfriend would understand. It could even give you some extra browny-points! (showing your thoughtful side and all)
But just to let you know, there are brands of diamonds that are specially mined and cut just for thoughtful guys like you! There is no bloodshed on account of those diamonds, and the proceeds from it go twords refugee releif.
I'm not quite sure where the website is, but Oprah had a huge show about it; just Google 'Oprah and Blood Diamond'.

It's better to be with a man with strong humanitarian ethics than to have a gold and diamond ring. Who wants to look at their hand and see a product of human suffering as a symbol of everlasting love? However, engagement rings are a strong symbol in our society, so I would try to find something. Synthetic/lab created stones, platinum, antique rings (for the true romantic), or there are one or two jewelers that do rings out of recycled metals and strictly Canadian diamonds (although Canadian diamond mines are still environmentally terrible). Many people use stones other than diamonds for engagement rings--Princess Diana's was a sapphire, and if it was good enough for a princess...

What would be amazing is if you picked out a ring with her favorite stone and a metal like platinum (which is more expensive, but not using a diamond would keep cost down). Rings these days are very different than the traditional gold band and diamond.

Would depend on the woman, and what your reasons were for boycotting the diamonds or gold.
There is always platinum, and there are other gems, that can be used.
Also research where the gold was mined, or if you can find a mining situation that is fair safe work conditions contact them and see if you can make a direct purchase.

I don't know what women will answer, but I do know that if your woman loves you she won't care much. I suggest rubies or emeralds on platinum . . . or something like that. I never heard anything bad about the gold industry though . . . only diamonds. Gold is reasonable, I think. Diamonds, I've heard, are lumps of crystallized carbon that are only scarce because of a monopoly induced by the diamond cartel. Good night!

Normally I could care less about real gold or whatever, but because a wedding ring is so special and genuine, I would want mine to be real so it doesn't turn colors on me and what not in the long run. I understand it goes against what you believe in, but I think this occasion overrides that

Platinum is hot right now for rings.
I have a real diamond, but I have heard many of my friends say they'd prefer fake because you can get a much bigger stone. I have a friend who has a emerald instead of a diamond - they were married on St Pat's day.
It is about symbolism. Diamonds represent eternity and the gold band is unending - like your love... Gold is traditional because it was precious.

Of course you're entitled to your own ethical and moral beliefs! But why not discuss it with your partner and find some unique wedding rings that are right for you both.
There are some interesting options for you to look at: check out silver Celtic rings (lots of unusual designs) or the range of rings made out of aircraft quality titanium.

moral reasons? I have no idea what that means anyway....If I understand your question correctly...no it wouldn't be a problem, because I want silver - not gold. And who cares about diamonds? it's just shiny rock. however - keep in mind that I have a right to change my mind and if you were my boyfriend (if I had one) I might question your reasons, or I might want some in about ten years or so with I'm 24 and ready to get married! :)
