Hi i have a female 8 month old cat who normally goes in our garden and maybe wanders on the street for a while. We let her out last night at 8 and she'ss still not back. We have looked all over the estate and she is no where to be seen. We have 3 year old boy who is very upset. What do you think the chances of her coming home are? She has never done this before!

She is probably around the neighborhood, I would put up signs around, it is possible that she was killed because she is so young, but if she dosn't turn up after a month I would say there is no hope.

You could post her on the web at http://www.tabbytracker.com/cat.php?id=17030&gclid=CLS-_dSwk4oCFQ6kWAoddmxjmw

You live on an ESTATE??...nice!

That's a lot of area for a cat to explore and since it's only been one day, I wouldn't be too concerned...
she's probably discovered how delicious a fresh mouse can be.

First off, you let her out...so what do you expect a cat to do?
Second, you don't indicate whether or not she's been spayed...need I say more?

You say she's "never done this before"...geez, the cat's only eight months old...give her time and an open door and she'll do it more.

Cat's have been known to return home after months, even years, "on the road"...so just keep her food dish handy and a candle burning in the window.

The lesson here...get yourself a second cat and keep it indoors...I've had cats all my life and the best success was with my Calico who lived to the grand 'ol age of twenty (yes, that's 20 years old) and always was kept indoors.

Cats do go on a walkabout for a few days sometimes, particularly when they're young, and then stroll back home as if they didn't know you were worried. I'd ask your neighbours to check in their sheds and garages just in case he's shut in somewhere.

I'm sorry for your loss. Microchips are great but many vets will not scan pets assuming that the person with the pet is the owner. I use an engraved ID piece and sometimes that will get your pet returned. She may return, on her own. You can put notices around your area and in vet offices and put down a reward is offered but not how much. I hope you find your kitty, Best wishes

Hi there,
Just wandered has she been spayed /neutered if not she could be on heat and this would be normal enough behavier. If this is the case when the naughty stopout returns I would whisk her off to the vets. Seriously though I hope she returns I to have kids and cats and love them all dearly. Good luck

If she is spayed and micro-chipped, you don't need to worry as much. Print out some flyer's with your contact details, a picture, a name, micro-chip number... anything someone should know shall they find your cat. You can call your local shelter or pound and ask them if they have got her. Go door-to-door and ask a few people in the area.

Most cats can find their way home if they have been outside before.

I've had cats for 17 years and it not unusual for them to be gone. My cat was gone for 2 weeks and came home starving and tired and slept for days!! Now is the time of year for animals to be in heat so it is pretty common for them to disapear and return apreciating their home environment more than ever!! I wouldn't worry until 3-4 weeks has gone by!!

Anything is possible. One of my oldest sister's cats escaped through a basement window and was gone for a week. My sister found him after distributing posters in her neighborhood. A woman had taken him in.

I hope you have learned your lesson about allowing your cat outdoors to roam without a harness and leash. Don't let it happen again.

Hope she's been speyed cos she's probably out on the razz, and wo'nt be back till she's had a good time. My male kit has been neutered and at 7 months, won't even venture out of the house, he's scared to go out. I'd rather keep it that way. Good Luck
