Most therapist will give you ideas that that want you to figure out on your own that is just the way it is with most mental health agencies. If you feel that your are not getting appropriate treatment with just talking to a therapist and you might need actual drug therapy, go see a psychiatrist to assist you with this.

Seriously, there isn't no positive things in life to get out of depression. Depression is like an acne that will never go away. It goes than comes back. Positive just doesn't work for some but may for others. I don't get it either. I been depressed for years and still cannot get positive so I decided to live with my depression. All you can do is pray. Just live second by second. Now I have depressed you I bet. Nothing positive came from my words of wisdom. Just do the best you can to get out of the depression. Find out first what made you depressed. Make a list. No particular order. Lets say it was losing your job or a girlfriend betrayed you or maybe your dog died. Somewhere the depression started way before anything major happened in your life in the last 3 years so this depression may have started as a young child and was hidden for so long..just a suggestion. Good luck....

Looking at the positive is just a start. After you start looking and seeing the positives in life, you will be too busy to dwell on the negative. Depression is horrible and people must force themself to not get caught up in the whole mess of much of reality. See, there is an awful lot about this world and within the people we meet each day and that is never going to change. You have to change. Make choices that make you smile, laugh, feel good, want to get up and get out and do something for yourself and for others. If you can't get out of bed, make yourself get out of bed. You are the driving force behind your own being. Be strong, think confident, look around and take in all that is good. Listen to the sounds all around you, birds singing, builders building, a bumble bee buzzing around. Realize that everyone of us has troubles, problems, embarassments, disabilities, etc. but we all are here with one another and together we get through it all! Reach out to people. Be friendly, make friends, keep good company, choose to be alive and well. You are a special person! Tap into that special part of yourself! You'll feel good. You'll be proud and productive. Just make up your mind to find what it is that inspires you and then go for it in fast forward and don't look back. Don't question yourself, don't doubt yourself. Hold your head up high and look passed all the garbage and focus on where you want to go. Now, get going!

Hiya,

I have to say I agree that you didn't get the support you needed during that session. It's a lot of money to fork out when you could probably get the same feedback from a caring friend.

It's fantastic you are seeking counselling for help in your life, but if you feel you arn't getting inspiration and help from this therapist then it's time to look around for a new one and other options.

Therapists arn't cheap but ensure you have also been to your GP to be checked out medically for reasons for your depression too. Depression is linked to not just our emotions from our past and present events, but also hormone imbalances, environment and nutrition play a part. Chemicals in the food and environment will affect our minds and body in a negative way too.

Strange as it may sound, try going to meditation or yoga classes as they can help lift depression. You usually walk away feeling relaxed and uplifted. If you can't get to classes buy some self-hypnosis cd's of "guided meditations" to listen to often when relaxing. Find them in the New Age sections in music stores or at New Age shops. I find them helpful when my mind is low or I'm stressed. Make sure your food is natural (organic is good) and exercise is had, as exercise is a great stress-buster and releases the feel-good endorphines through the body, making you feel more alive and happier.

There are natural anti-depressants available from health food stores such as 5-HTP (L-5-Hydroxytryptophan). Get down to the local library and grab some self-help books too which will give you lots of ideas on how to self-treat your depression and beat it.

Putting yourself in the hands of a therapist without doing anything else might mean you take much longer to get through this phase. And please remember, it's just a phase. You weren't born suffering with depression, you developed it somewhere on your life journey and now you are on the road to having it controlled and removed from your life.

You can learn techniques on how to deal with negative situations and emotions which will help in preventing depression in the future. Depression is often caused by negative emotions such as repressed anger that has never been dealt with or found an outlet (or voice), and therefore that negative emotion builds up inside the body to a point where it mainfests as "depression".

Make a promise to yourself that you will do everything you can to get through each fifteen minutes, each hour, each day, then each week, and each month until you are back to your happy self, which is where you are meant to be and are going to be.

And you will do it. I know you will.

Part of the therapy is that you interact with your therapist and wholeheartedly listen to and take on board what your therapist says. Unless you respect the situation, and want to receive the therapy, you are indeed wasting your money. But the therapist must prove that they are value for money as they purport to be qualified and should earn their handsome fee. I suggest you discuss this very point with your therapist, stating that you have no wish to be depressed even more with wasting money. If she is worth her salt, she will respond accordingly and hopefully with more direction and reassurance.
I have this theory that talking through your depression with a complete stranger can be very therapeutic in itself ..... and you don't have to pay for that ... just find a stranger who is prepared to listen. The more you discuss the matter, the more you will see ways to deal with it under your own steam ...... remember, the real person who is going to help you is YOU ...... good luck .

Watch the film "grave of the fireflys" Its a japanese cartoon so you will probably dismiss it as worthless and meaningless as most people do with cartoons. But trust me this is the most sad film I have ever seen in my whole life, and Iv seen a lot of films. It is so upseting and I cryed the whole way through, infact I dont think Iv ever cryed so much. But now I just think well my life is better than theirs. I appreciate life and all the wonders it brings so much more now. If you dont feel you can handle a sad film though then "Patch Adams" changed mylife also but when I was much younger. I was the stereotypical depresed teenager and then I saw this film and it litraly changed my life and my whole outlook on it.

They are Numpties who do not know what they are doing and do not have the intelligence to see what they should be doing or saying.
Only 1 in 10 is any good, they do not speak your language, you have to speak theirs. They are after 3 things I found, power over helpless people, the maintenance of their status and to make themselves feel adequate. Do not bother with these quacks.

I think you need to do some research and find a better therapist. Ask your gp, they keep a list.
