Theres a dog over by my mother in laws that has been tied out with no shelter for past few days...Finially after visiting her today, I could take no more. I went to local police, and they said it has to wait till Monday...Well here in Ohio it is 14 degrees and with wind chill -4...That dog is out there shaking and nothing will be done for it. Id go steal him, but this house is a known drug house in the area, and dont really want to get killed...Im sick here and hoping that the dog can make it till Monday. Our local Animal Welfare is closed, and said to call local police, but since that city where the dog is doesnt have a contract, with AW that dog will have to suffer..anyway my question is. This was a white German Shepherd, can he withstand the cold for another day? What options do I have besides getting my brains blown out trying to steal him?

I assume that you have tried the humane society, dog warden and police (you said you had contacted the police and animal warden). Typically only one (or maybe two) agencies have the authority to confiscate a dog in a given area. That's all you can do in terms of rescuing him. In terms of getting him through this very cold weekend (I am in Ohio too), he needs the basics: shelter from the wind, water, and some dry food. In these kinds of temperatures, water bowls freeze solid in less than an hour. If you could get close enough to give him some old blankets so he can stay off of the snow and/or arrange a lean-to to shelter him from the wind, that would be helpful. If you could give him some very hot water (so it will stay unfrozen for a while) several times a day, it will help. The good news is that a healthy german shepherd (one that is not underweight or otherwise ill) has a reasonable chance of surviving this weekend if you can get it some sort of shelter and water.

ok...if you can be an actress then try this: Knock on the door and introduce yourself. Be cheerful and friendly. Then ask if you could bring the dog over to your house because you'd like to convince someone (husband, parent, boyfriend) that there is such a thing as a white shepard and that this is the perfect kind of dog to own. Praise the owner for such a beautiful animal and that you'll return it tomorrow. OR You could even offer to buy the dog! Or say that you noticed that the dog was very cold, and that you are a professional dog sitter and that you would be happy to take care of the dog for a few days....b.s. them with wide-eyed innocence and as a last resort say something like, I'm going to give the dog some blankets to stay warm......if you approach them (drug dealers) with acceptance (don't criticize them for the way they are treating the animal) and just be harmless, you might get somewhere.....your attitude should be not nosey but matter of fact like.....you should believe your lies....try it. Good luck. I'm praying for the pooch.

Awww, that's awful! Maybe you could call some of the local veterinarians around that area to see if they have any ideas about who could help. Local animal rescue groups maybe besides AW? Sometimes there are volunteer groups that cover pretty big areas. You could try searching on the net for something like that around you.

did you mention it was outside a drug house to the police? That might speed them up...the dog will probably be okay until monday, but you should chase it up with the police to make sure they have done something about it.
its very sad, I can understand how you would be tempted to steal it
could you throw it some food? (in case it is not being fed)

Thank you. It warms my heart to hear of someone who cares so much for an abused animal. I hope you can save this dog. The world is a better place because of people like you. For your kindness the rewards will be great.

OMG, I am so sorry, I am in Michigan and it is cold like that here too. GOOD for you for wanting to help the dog. I can't believe the police won't help you. Maybe get a friend to call too. If they get enough calls, maybe they will do something.

Man I wouldn't care I would steal him, but to answer your question is try to talk to the people who own the dog or at least give him a warm blanket.

Take someonme with you, knock on the door and ask if you can have the dog. Tell them you'd really like to have it, even offer to pay for the dog. Chances are they don't want the dog anyway.

That's pretty messed up. It's been below 20 here and I couldn't imagine keeping my dogs outside right now. Very inhumane. Call PETA, and remain anonymous.

Go to PETA or some other website that represents SERIOUS animal rights activists. These people will go steal the dog TONIGHT, if you give them the address. They will kick the drug dealers azzes too.
