What is the best way to crate train a 3 year old cocker spaniel that has never been crate trained?

buy a crate,,,, leave door open,, toss treats in ,,, praise,, feed in there,,, gently shut door behind door for longer periods,,, put dogs blankets in there,,,, just get him used to it......

My family has owned cockers all my life. What we do is start putting them in the crate just for little trips down to the store etc. Just to start getting them used to it and work up from there. Toy's and treats inside the crate never hurt either.

you could start by feeding it its dinner in the crate and try giving it treats when it steps in to the crate. check some of the other answers
