It’s actually a matter of bandwidth; even with Dish Network not every High Definition channel receives the same bandwidth! The more Bandwidth allocated – the better. The Pay-Per-View Channels get the most, followed by Showtime, HBO, and finally TNT, Kung Fu, etc. Yes, Dish Network even has a channel dedicated just to Kung Fu in High Definition.
If your Cable High Definition picture is inferior to Satellite – then your cable company made the decision to offer more channels (both High and Standard Definition) in exchange for a superior High Definition picture. High Definition presented in its full glory occupies the same bandwidth as 36 channels in Standard Definition!
Realize I haven’t resolved your problem. Dish is constantly adding local channels in High Definition – I’m lucky to receive mine via an antennae. Suggest you attempt a UHF/ HDTV antennae or check with Dish occasionally to see if your area has been added.
Good Luck.
The link below does a better job of explaining bandwidth than I did.

now and again cable HD will be of equivalent nice, yet no longer continually. The signal typically has to vacation through means of miles of.. authentic, cable. That degrades the picture nice, as adverse to being received on on your dish. Cable alerts are typically analog swifter or later, even as satellite tv for pc alerts are digital from section on your dish. Over the air HD is the right via a procedures, yet few human beings pick those tremendous antennas on their roof.

There is functionally no difference in the view you get from the connection standards.

One combines Audio with the Video the other breaks it into component lines.
The issue you may be fighting probably has to do with the settop box you were provided from your cable provider. You may want to make certain that you recieved an HD box, and not a high end normal box, that had the right connectors. My first set box from Time Warner Cable was a fancy box with the right connectors but was unable to decode HD signals.
As to the specifics of the signal to and from the box, these should not be degraded in any significant way. The copper and fiber lines that carry your signal are more than capable of carrying the same if not more information than the waves from your carrier sattellite. Its the equipment between that you need to check if your signal is bad.

Sometimes cable HD will be of equivalent quality, but not always. The signal often has to travel through miles of.. well, cable. That degrades the image quality, as opposed to being received straight to your dish. Cable signals are sometimes analog at some point, whereas satellite signals are digital from space to your dish.
Over the air HD is the best by far, but few people want those massive antennas on their roof.

At least cable won't be knocked out by snow, heavy rain, wind, sea fog corroding the dish bracket or some damn huge seagull crashing into the dish, all of which I've had in the last two years.
