A codpiece was a covering for male genitalia devised in Elizabethan times circa the middle 1500s. In those days, the short jackets (jerkins) men wore and the leg coverings did not fully cover the under-tights, so an extra covering was added for modesty. It's more complicated, but that's the essence. Catches wear a 'cup" as protection for the same reason. So do athletes in a few other sports.
Jesus in his time wore a loincloth covered by a belted or tied robe of some sort as his main garment, of whatever length the occasion demanded.

Jesus would've been attired the same as other men of His time.I hardly think,though,that His attire is of any importance.Otherwise I'm sure the Bible would've given the subject some time instead of concentrating on the substitutional nature of His death, His miracles,the evidence of His Divinity,the evidence that He was the promised Messiah,His miraculous birth and His resurrection

A client once said to me....."I think Jesus wore tye-dyed shirts and bell bottoms"....I just smiled and said...who knows WHAT he wore???....and......WHAT is a codpiece???
