I wouldn't be concerned. You're probably right about her trying to tell you something; she wants to bury her bone. She's trying to find some place safe to hide it so no scavengers get her "meal."

Our chihuahua Stanly does the same thing with his Nylabone. He has his own "blankie", a fleece receiving blanket. When I hold it up, he'll drop his bone for me to cover with his blankie (usually under the computer desk, sometimes under the chair that is next to his crate). On rare occasions, he'll "bury" it under the pillow in his crate without my help. After he wanders off on to another activity or to take a nap, I retrieve the bone and put it up on "his" shelf, out of his reach. He's only allowed to chew on things while he's being supervised.

I agree with the others, she's guarding it, and she's nervous because she has nowhere safe to put it down. My dog is 8lbs and he does the same thing if we give him a new bone, he carries it everywhere and whimpers a lot. The best thing to do is only give it to her for a few hours to chew on, and then lock it away where she can't see or smell it. She might cry for it back at first, but she'll forget about it sooner or later and go back to playing.

One of my Siberian Huskies did this with a rubber chicken that had a squeaker toy inside of it. We took the squeaker out of it, thinking maybe that was the problem, but she still carried around the darn chicken. She would pick it up very gently, almost as if it were one of her puppies (although she has never had puppies), and carry it around in her mouth and whine. She made us all crazy with it, and we finally ended up taking the chicken away from her and replacing it with another toy.

It's a territorial thing. She's trying to hide it from anyone who might want it. If she went outside, she would probably try to bury it. If you put a blaket on the floor near her dog bed, she will probably stick it in there & ruffle the blanket up

well, start spending more time with you pet, like, rubbing the dogs paws and, the top of the head nice and soft. for about as long as you would like to be rubbed down, know what i mean.
dogs and cats love to be touched as much as we do.
