Matthew 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

You cannot ever expect to understand scriptures when they are pulled out to stand alone without their counter scriptures to help you know what they are talking about.

To resist not evil-From G473 and G2476; to stand against, that is, oppose: - resist, withstand.

You don't have to put yourself in places where you will be confronted for those places contain evil.

Matthew 5:38-40 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
smite Luke 6:29,30, 1st Cor 6:7

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

These scriptures are trying to teach us to be humble and not so quick to retaliate against other who do us harm or wrong.

Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

This scripture show us how God wants us to handle strife and confrontation. To reverse it wrather then to increase it by adding to it. When a fire takes place, for the most part water is used to neutralize it and we don't add more fuel to it which would only cause the fire to gain strength and power over what it is already consuming.

Fireman will build a controlled fire around a wooded area so the outer rim of the area that is burning meets the inner fire as to finally cause it to burn it's self out, because fire cannot consume and burn what has already been burned.

We are to go the extra mile and try to put the fires of our lives with others who want to cause us harm by trying to calm the situation down or simply don't put yourself in that situation to begin with.

Pick up the Bible and sincerly ask God to teach you what it is He wants you to know from His word daily and He will. Stop picking and choosing sections and disecting His word because you will never understand it. You dont start a new book from the end or the middle so dont do that with God's word.

It means just what it says. Did you read it somewhere or were you trying to make a profound statement? I also think it would be a cold way to live life. If no one ever resisted evil, then none would ever care if someone else smiled, or help if someone was hurting or in danger, etc. The world would be in constant total chaos. No real happiness would exist. It would be Hell!
