Not long. Takes longer to jack up the car than it does to dismount the starter and install the new one. If you have problems check out the Sentra or Nissan Online Mechanic sections of

If you mean how long do they last in a 2001 sentra, then 5 years is about right. the starters in the nissans around that year were pretty weak and burned out easily ( especially sentra and maxima). you have to replace it with a brand new starter - not re-manufactured. Even the nissan re-man starters are troublesome. figure $275 and 45 min based on intermediate mechanical skill level.

Usually it's fairly easy. Be sure to disconnect the battery completely, jack up the car and put it on good jackstands -- that way you get get up under it safely. To find it, look at where the engine meets the transmission. It sits on the side of the split so it can engage the flywheel. You may have to take off the plastic stuff that covers the bottom of the engine to see it.

I believe it's two 14mm bolts (tight) holding it on and a 12mm on the back to take off the wires. Then it's disconnect the connection to the battery. If you're nervous about remembering things take a digital picture of the connections. It should take you about an hour if you have the right wrenches. You can do it!

depends on how nice you are to your starter when you turn the key to your ignition. IE: turning the key when the car is already running. Happens to everyone at least once. A starter can go 1 year 5 years 10 years. It's a wear and tear part. My original one on my 95 altima I replaced in 2005.

ive replaced a bunch of starters, and for the most part, its a pretty straight forward task(except some of these newer/foriegn cars are harder to work on, and sometimes you have to remove a bunch of stuff to get to it). yeah about 20 minutes to a half an hour. and if the question was about how long a starter usually lasts, yeah about 3-5 years sounds right.

no, are you insane. i have 4 vehicles, 1986 nissan 300zx twin turbo, 1963 nova twin turbo, 1987 custom cutlass and a 1996 gmc Sonoma.
Depending on your driving habbits, your own maintance a starter should last you a lifetime, but if it craps out, usually it takes 20 minutes to pull out the old one, and 20 minutes to install the new one. Remember, undo your positive (red) battery cable, so that you don't shock yourself, BEFORE YOU BEGIN.

For someone who hasn't done it before but has some common sense, and a good assortment of wrenches. You should be able to have it replaced within 30-45 imnutes.

Just be sure to disconnect the battery first.
