Radiologic Technologist, Radiologic technician, or Radiographer. Different names for the same Job. Its what I do. I take x-rays, but also as a radiographer you can conduct CTs, MRIs, Ultrasound (Sonography), Nuclear Medicine, or even Radiation Therapy; it just depends on the amount of education in the Field of Radiology. With anything else, the pay depends on where you live. As a Diagnostic tech, you can make anywhere from $17 USD/hr to about $30 USD/hr. In hospitals, contract Civilians can even make more just from working nights or weekends or just from being an On-Call tech. Some CT techs make about $50 USD/hr. My Instructor from X-ray School worked at a hospital on the weekends and carried a pager during the weekend in case they needed a CT. He would work two 16hr Shifts @ $50/hr. Also, it is a rewarding career in many ways. You'll recieve patients that have been waiting in the ER for hours just to get an x-ray but, depending on you, they're mood can change from irritated to even having fun. When you have kids that are scared but you make them smile, I think thats why I love my job!

Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists employ a range of sophisticated equipment to produce high quality images to diagnose an injury or disease. They use a range of techniques including:

X-rays– to look through tissue to examine bones, cavities and foreign objects;

Ultrasound – uses high frequency sound and is increasingly used due to its versatility in obstetrics, including fetal monitoring throughout pregnancy, gynaecology, abdominal, paediatrics, cardiac, vascular and musculo-skeletal;

Fluoroscopy – to image the digestive system providing a live motion x-ray;

CT (computed tomography) – which provides cross-sectional views (slices) of the body;

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) – builds a 2-D or 3-D map of different tissue types within the body;

Nuclear medicine – this uses radioactive tracers which can be administered to examine how the body and organs function, for example the kidneys or heart. Certain radioisotopes can also be administered to treat particular cancers eg thyroid

Wages for x-ray technicians are also excellent. The median annual pay rate is $38,970 with $27,190 per year being the low end and $55,430 being the high end

I thought it was someone who just takes pictures of broken bones. BUT...when I was 18, I went to a hospital for a "day on the job" experience because I thought I wanted to be an X-ray tech. If you dont like blood, guts, needles and peoples naked parts, then dont go for this job. It was a real eye-opening experience. Go to your local hospital and ask to speak to one. More than likely someone would be happy to talk to you. Good Luck.

There may be some dangers being around that much x-rays, and such, but they get paid about 50-60K.

You deal with patients, but most of the time spent developing and just taking their pictures.

An x-ray technician is someone who develops the film, works the machine, helps the doctors and they get pretty significant pay.
It is really hard work but might not be worth it. It is up to you.
