the mouth is one area which is filled with bacteria.....bacteria, and open wounds...(and that's what you'll have when you get it pierced) have disasterous consequences...Let me tell you a little story of someone I know...she had her tongue pierced and had such a bad infection that it ran to her brain....she was hospitilized for two weeks, and lucky to be alive today...needless to say....she no longer has the ring on her tongue along with many mental functions....

My advice to you.....forget it...it could be the worse mistake that you'll ever make....and for what??

Seeing as how you're getting all these negative responses from people who don't even have tongue piercings, I feel the need to respond. :-) I've had mine for around 4 years now. No plans to take it out.

Yes, mine did hurt. I did not get anesthetized at all, I've never heard of a place even doing this, but I guess some do. It took awhile for the needle to go all the way through, because my piercer was "trying to miss a vein" and while I appreciated that, it hurt worse because it wasn't instant, like a lobe piercing.

The consequences? Well, you should really consider doing some research to learn more about that. There is a chance that, if you go to a piercer that doesn't know what he/she is doing, you may contract a disease or find yourself with a serious medical problem. Only go to a place that is reputable, and doesn't say they'll charge like $20 for it or anything.

Besides the immediate danger when the piercing takes place, you can also chip your teeth on the barbell. My dentist gave me a huge lecture about this, and not too long after, I bought a certain barbell called a "spinner" and chipped 4 of my teeth by biting on it twice. Since then, wearing a steel barbell, I have had no problems. It also is important to get the right length so that you're not constantly biting it because it's too long. Mine is 1/2" long, and right now I wear a 6G. I was pierced at a 12G, but decided that was too boring for me, so I have stretched it a few times. Now, THAT is painful.... more so than I thought it might be.

When I first got it pierced, I couldn't talk well for a few days, but as far as having a lisp, that also depends on your piercer. If the piercing is too close to the tip of your tongue, you could end up having difficulty talking. Mine is close to the tip, though, and most people say they didn't know I had a piercing because I talk fine. Others have said I have a lisp, though, so someone is lying! ;-)

If you do decide that you want to remove it, it should close back up fairly quickly. Even at the lower gauges, I have heard that it still will close up within hours. The mouth heals really quickly, so you'll need to keep it in unless you would like the piercing to be gone.

I also wanted to mention that the amount of discomfort you have after it has healed depends on the size of your jewelry and what style it is. For example, you want the barbell to be long enough to give your tongue room to move and flex. If it's too short, you'll get indentations on your tongue, and that would be painful. In the same manner, if the barbell is too long, you will feel it rubbing on the roof of your mouth and/or the area under your tongue. My piercer put my piercing on an angle due to the shape of my mouth. You can also get different sized balls or flatter ends for the barbells. I buy most of my jewelry at www.tonguestud.com. They have a nice selection and their jewelry is guaranteed for life. And, by the way, I have never regretted getting my tongue pierced. Another poster had mentioned how most guys hate them.... Trust me, that's not the case. If anything, my tongue gets me more attention than anything else. And who cares what others think, anyway? If you really want one and feel that you are able to take care of it and let it heal, you should definitely go for it. Hope this helped! Good luck and congratulations!

I got my tongue pierced almost 2 years ago, and it never got infected, haven't cracked any teeth.. However, sometimes while I'm eating I guess the ring gets in the way of my chewing, so I bite into it.. But that's when I'm rushing to finish eating.. Other than that, it's no bother. Of course it hurts, but it's only for that moment. They numb your tongue. I didn't bleed at all. It got swollen, but I was told to eat ice & it was fine the next day. Yeah, if you take it out it'll close up in like a day. Just be clean about it (using mouthwash, etc.)& you'll be fine. And be careful while eating. You forget it's there after a while.. Just like my labret.. If anything, that was not painful at all & I don't even feel it. And I've had it since 1999!! Good luck.. And go to a reputable parlor!

OH my god does it ever hurt! I would not recommend you do it. First, it will leave an indentation from the ball at the roof of your mouth and it will bother you. Second, if it is not done by someone good they could give you a slur in your speech, or even worse hit a nerve and you will never talk again. Third, it cracks your teeth, you dentist will hate it, and even tell you it will give you a greater chance of mouth caner. Last, most men hate them! I did it when I was 18, could not talk for a week afterwords, my tongue swelled up so bad I did not eat for 3 days. Last people would ask me if I was a slut. I had no idea people associated them with oral sex. It left cracks in my teeth. I removed it when I was 20! The hole will partially close but you will still be able to see where it was like a belly button ring, Cost to much money for the hassle.

well i ive had mine pierced for a month....welll if the person knows what theyre doing and you take care of it there should be no bad consequences.......well it will close if you take it out with hin the first couple of months if you dont put teh ring back in shortly after taking it out or so sometimes it takes years for it to stay open if you decide to take it out for a full 24 hours or more....................no it doesnt hurt it just feels like soemthing is pushing down on ur tongue..but evryone is different but the initial piercing doesnt hurt..just relax...but shortly afterwards it hurts it swells you cant eat..well i did anywayz cuz i ddint want to baby it but it hurts but take like ibuprofen or tylenol and it will help alleviate the pain and swelling and in a week you shoudl be good and in 2 weeks you can change the ring...but when you get it done for liek the 1st 2 weeks you should mouthwash after evrything you eat and take vitamins to help the healing process.....mine is completely healed..but for mouthwash use the one the piercer recomends or a mouthwash without alchol ....liek listerine isnt good because of teh alcohol but if u must use it dillute it with water cuz it can dry the piercing out

big thing you should know is make sure to get dental safe tongue rings at least in the beginning until you are super used to it. i have heard several people say they have chipped or cracked teeth on non dental safe bars because they weren't used to it.
the hole closes very quickly if you decide to remove it, i have had customers with heavy gauge piercings need to order smaller ones after just leaving it out for a day or two.

of course it will hurt since you have nerve receptors everywhere in you body and it is abundant anywhere in one's face. if you are really into tongue piercing, you should suffer the pain. But, do not worry, most of the time, they will apply sedative treatments like anesthesia before performing such piercing.
I haven't tried being pierced so i don't know if the hole will close, but i am pretty sure it will. Cells, tissues constantly reproduce itself and multiply. the hole will eventually close ater probably 1 to 2 months, but with scar.
I hope I answered your question.

Personally, I wouldn't have it done. I've heard they can crack and stain teeth. Also, I think it would be very sore and difficult to keep clean. Getting a tongue piercing is just as bad as getting "I'm a w****." tattoed across your forehead because of their association with oral sex.
