My mom met him one weekend in Florida while passing through in 1981. She gave me his name, but does not remember much about him. Does anyone have any info on how I can find him? I don't have much money to search, but if it's reasonable I can afford to try. Thank you.

Ok. His name is Gordon Cavespri or Calavespri. Pronounced Kah-ves-pre. I'm not sure on the spelling. That might not even be his name. He's Italian. My mom met him in Fort Walton Beach Florida. I was born in May of 1982. My date of conception should have been around Aug. 13, 1981. My mom was 19, she thinks he was 22-27 years old. She remembers him having dark hair and being tanned, but it was Florida so everyone was tanned. She also said that he was taller than her, but she doesn't remember how much taller. She's probably about 5'5. It's hard for her to recall a lot of details because this was a fling about 25 years ago! Thank you all for any help or advice you can give me.

You have a lot of searching ahead of you but the good news is most if not all of it is free of charge. Start with 411 and try and find anyone with the name that you have or names with the same pronunciation or similar spelling. Try genealogy sites on the net, there are quite a few that will give you free searches but will charge to give you details. Membership to some sites is inexpensive, some are more expensive but give you access to millions of names and records.

Then you have to process by elimination. It will be very frustrating because 99.9 % of the names will be the wrong ones but as you progress in your research it will become easier for you.

Eventually you should have reduced the number of possible from thousands/hundreds to a managable number and that is when the going gets really tough. THese people have to be contacted preferably in writing, as a phone call will more than likely put them into shock. Explain your situation clearly, state your motives and wait for them to write back. You might want to give them your e-mail address or enclose a SASE.

Do not despair, try and try again. Be ready for the worse case scenario, he may not want to meet you or know about you, this person could be deceased, moved to another country or have changed his name. NEVER give up. If you really want to find him, persevere, it can be done.

If all else fails try shows like Maury, Oprah and a few others that I cant recollect.

I have a daughter that found me after 35 yrs and she will tell you it was worth it, I know it was great for me after all these years.

Have you tried 'googling' the name???

Hopefully the name is not too common, and you might come up with something...try to get every little bit of info from your mom, including possible age, hair/eye color etc and 'google' it.

My cousins niece found her dad that way. If there are several matches in different states, I guess, you could try calling???Although you never know if your father is/was married at the time etc...then again, a long time has passed, so, all the best to you!

We would need the details to be able to find him...starting with his name and where she thinks he was from and roughly how old he was at the time. Classmates.com is a very good place to start searching, but there are several other key sites that will help. But without a name to start with, there's not much help we can give.

I don't have an answer to your question but I did want to comment on it. I was in Fort Walton beach this past Christmas and there weren't many Italians there. He may have just been passing through also. Regardless, here is the site for Fort Walton's phone directory.

Your mother made a baby with a man and she doesn't even know his name. Ouch!

There are sites that you can search with. My favorite is:

www.zabasearch.com

It used to be great, but has been getting worse and worse.
