Is it true that you can become a Catholic priest by being a monk first? If so, how?

You go to a friary and say " I would like to be a monk" Stay a few years and in your free time study priest stuff then do the priest exam and your there!

I'm not sure what the differences are, but there are different orders. Some religious become ordained priests; some simply enter brotherhoods and vow themselves to God. To be a priest, you must go to a Catholic seminary where you will be schooled in the priesthood. From there, if you go all the way through and want to be a priest, you will be ordained. If you are interested in this, you should talk to your local priest. He can point you in the right direction.

No it is not true. One goes into a Seminary and discerns if this is something he is called to do. Then he studies and I think the first thing he does is get ordained as a Deacon before the actuall priesthood. The Monks are a seperate thing all together.

Yes this is true,when a man enters an order like the Franciscans or Dominicans for example he will be a brother,later on if he and his superior decide that ordination is right for him,he will undergo study for the Priesthood and this study is usually shorter for him than for a young man who enters a seminary in the outside world.
