My personal recommendation would be "Lemongrass" on Sukhumvit Soi 24, opposite the entrance to the Emporium shopping Centre

A restaurant named Baan Khanitha has been voted best Thai restaurant for nine consecutive years by the Bangkok Restaurant and Entertainment Guide, they have two locations, 69 South Sathorn Rd., and 36/1 Sukhimvit, Soi Prasanmit (the original), both are upscale (but reasonably priced), probably not "classic" Thai food but the interpretation of the owner. I've eaten there three times and have enjoyed the food immensely. Having said that, I agree with Peanutz, my favorite restaurant is a "hole in the wall" outdoor restaurant in a more obscure part of Bangkok that most tourists probably wouldn't set foot in, I eat there at least two or three times a week. Most Thai's do not consider better restaurants authentic, which is probably a good thing, as I've tried many of my mother-in-laws dishes, some good, but many I will never acquire a taste for. Try Baan Khanitha.

There are many good eats in Bangkok. The best one will be the one that you will enjoy the food the most yourself.

I do find that there are many varieties and many restaurants do not serve the same dishes or type of food. So eating in any restaurant is always a new experience for me.

And sometimes, you need not be eating in a restaurant for authentic/modern Thai food. You cantaste it along the roadside at a food stall, or even the market. Cause this is where the locals like to eat.

Just try any place that appeals to you. I am sure the food will be good.
