Dad lives in another state ( rural Michigan) and has been retired for approx 2 years now ( Mom is still working and will be for another 3 years). Any suggestions on activities,classes,etc.. that he can be involved in regularly? We are also concerned that he has put on alot of weight since he retired, and want to help him get on track. Thanks

I'm FINALLY an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree (and was a Long Term Single Parent to my children who are NOW Living Independently) ...
and the one thing that I AM ENJOYING at this time ..
I am going to MY LOCAL Community College (and even though I have my UGrad and Grad Degrees that formed the basis of my ability to RETIRE from my careers) and taking COURSES ...
There are plenty there to ENJOY ... everything from finding NEW Hobbies (where in the world can you get Golf Lessons so cheaply!), to First Aid classes, to Hobbies (like Photography, Ethnic Cooking Classes) to Travel Opportunities ..
And these courses can either be FOR Credit or NOT for Credit!
I am ENJOYING TREMENDOUSLY the courses I've taken so far ... and yes, they are FUN!

There are senior centers that have activities everyday for people like him. The YMCA offers many things including swimming. Many organizations are always looking for volunteers and it can be very rewarding.Local libraries have many classes in different things,also recreation centers offer so many activities for seniors and all these all very cheap and some are free.Help Dad look into them and I am sure he will be happier and will lose some of that weight making him healthier.

Golf courses would be great...country clubs the retire hang out at.
