You would think that is a valid reason, after all you had to have at least 1 ancestor who was kidnapped from Africa and sold into slavery on U.S. soil. As long as you can prove your ancestry truly goes back to Africa, you might have a fighting chance. It would definitely be an interesting attempt to monitor, in my eyes. But, in all my years on this earth this is the 1st time I heard this type of plea from someone. I wouldn't recommend going there broke, it is still foreign soil to you.
An easier way is to volunteer for an organization, that is doing work in Africa, that way you could go safely, experience the culture, be given food & lodging, and help your fellow mankind.
You are truly a unique young lady, I hope you achieve your goals.

There have been different attempts at repatriating blacks to Africa, and the country of Liberia was founded by some African Americans who had been freed and returned. Lately, there has been talk of reparations to descendants of slaves, but nothing has come of it, largely because of the logistical nightmare that could ensue as people try to find and claim their ancestry. Lately, there has been no attempt at funding a Back to Africa movement.
If you are truly interested in living in Africa, I would suggest that you check out the Peace Corps or one of the main aid agencies affiliated with churches and other groups. That way you can get a taste of what living in Africa would be like, and help others as well.

It depends on the country. They have immigration laws also. Although if you go there, you'll probably richer than average Africans there. You should try to help the people out there if you "really" want to live there in their country.

The US did try to repatriate African Americans to Africa in the 19th century. The United States set up a free colony in West Africa now called Liberia and many did went to Liberia. I think they made up the upper class in that country when the first settled there.

As for the Jamaican-American, Marcus Garvey, the reason why he failed is because the American Government was suspicious of an African American nationalist. His Ocean liner, "The Black Star", failed because of internal curruption and inexperience in handling Cruise Liners. The European Imperialists over there were also afraid of an African American Nationalist who might chuck out a piece of their territory and inspire other Africans to fight for indpendence during late colonial period. There was a show on this about Marcus Garvey and his Black Star liner and why it failed in the History Detectives in PBS channel.

If you want to indulge yourself in the fantasy that somehow you would be better off as a black person in Africa feel free to do so. Please find a way to finance your own delusions. Fact is blacks in America enjoy the highest standard of living of any blacks on the planet. You have as much in common with African blacks as say I do with amerindian savages in the Amazon basin. Any debt you may feel is owed to you by the US was paid on the battle fields of gettysburg, Vicksburg, Mannasass, ect. Remember slavery is still practiced in Africa and was abolished in the US in 1865. If you think you are broke in the US which has the richest poor people on earth I can't imagine how you would do better in a continent with an average wage of 2.00$ a day

Thats was already tried. The US created Liberia to send unwated negroes, but with time the real state became profitable (rubber production) and the US created havoc to dominate the country.
Dont get your ticket out thorugh Uncle Sam. Save and buy a ticket, ot better yet marry to somebody from there and you are home free. Try countries like South Africa or Kenya which have a decent level of development.

The US Government supplies loads of money to various organizations for all sorts of different things. Understood your ancestors had not say in the matter, but if lots of people decided they wanted to "move back" to the country of their ancestors the government would be broke. For example what if people of French ancestry wanted a vacation. they could claim what they wanted to move back, and then coax perhaps the French government into letting them move back to the US. I'm not saying this is what you're doing, but lots of people could take advantage of that.

I can bet you this ,being poor in America sure beats the hell out of being poor in any African country. I feel so sorry for you and what you have allowed your life in America to become. You could have been anything that you had the desire and fortitude to be.But instead you decided to blame your failure on something that happened long before even your great grand parents were born. You have let the past decide the future for you.... Why not blame the right person. Its not slavery,or the white man ...its you to blame no one else. If you cant make it in the USA ,you sure as hell arent going to make it in Africa,

Believe me, you don't want to live in Africa...I've had friends from Africa (Somalia) and the things they've seen are too horrible to speak of. Even South Africa is pretty bad.
You'd have a high chance of being raped, and the chances you'd get AIDS is pretty high (everyone has it). Women are not equals in any country in Africa.
