keep really good records on charitable and other legitimate deductions. Many people forget about things when it's time to do their return.

One thing I do every year is have a large envelop that I stick receipts and copies of checks (property taxes) so that I have everything together and it isn't a hunt. I don't have to ask, "where's that receipt? because I have it in my large envelop.

Getting a bigger tax refund is just returning money that you paid in on taxes, An interest free loan to the US Goverment. The point of paying taxes is to pay what you owe, no more, no less.
Check the withholding calculator at www.irs.gov. you will need your last paycheck stub. It will tell you how much total for the year you will have had withheld for the year and how much of a refund you would get next year, If you stayed at the same job and same rate of pay all year
