I have always baked my meatballs before putting them in the sauce in the crockpot, but i was wondering if there was a better way to get the sauce to really soak in the meat, other than slow cooking them.

I cook my meatballs in the sauce until they are fully cooked and the flavor soaks the meat really well. My sauce is equal parts grape jelly and ketchup with a little hot sauce. I know it sounds gross but it is really good and the meatballs come out tasting great.

I always bake my meatballs - I do have a great meatball recipe made with sausage-
2 tubes of sausage (like Jimmy Dean)
4 cups of shredded cheddar
aprox. 1/3 cup onion
1 1/3 cups Bisquick

Mix with hands till you push all together - form balls bake 350 for 20 mins.
Eat as is or --
Boil 2 packages of Tortilini (I use 1 meat 1cheese)
Drain -add favorite frozen vegies
large can of chicken broth - add meatballs
Yum!

I always brown mine in olive oil on the stove...just a bit of oil.....and then add then to the sauce, I have never heard of someone baking them, that would dry them out, plus the oil from the meatballs will thicken your sauce really nice and give it a "sheen"

NOPE! all wrong, you want them to be juicy!

Cook em' in the marinara sauce/gravy along with other meats like sausage and braciole
