A pillowcase will not stop any micro organisms, if you're going to get ill, you will with or without the pillow case on.

Who knows what the inside ofyour pillow is really made of?
And what sort of chemicals are used to preserve those contents.
I would use a pillowcase just because.... By the way...Don't ever put a pillow in the dryer..I did this years ago and had feathers coming out of my dryer everywhere....always have them drycleaned...FYI
