ibuprofen is generally well tolerated and the maximum allowed dose of ibuprofen is 3200 mg in a single day ( 800mg qid) and this dose is rarely needed ( only in cases of inflammation)
for pain relief it is documented that the max effect ( that is relief of pain ) is attained at a dose of 400 mg , which means that taking 600 mg for example will not give you an increased pain relief.

Read the instructions on the bottle of ibuprofen. It gives the amount for adults and children according to the particular strength of the pills

What ever the bottle says, BUT know that long term use of NSAIDs results in tissue thinning and internal bleeding. Use it temporarily but not long term.

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and My Pharmacist said 2400 mg. per day.
