Most toddlers bladders aren't physically developed until they are 2 1/2 years old so if this is your child, you would be wasting your time.
This below is a readiness checklist you should go through from the babycenter to make sure your child is ready.

Look for a general trend toward independence and an understanding of what it means to go to the bathroom like a grown-up.

Physical signs

Is coordinated enough to walk, and even run, steadily.

Urinates a fair amount at one time.

Has regular, well-formed bowel movements at relatively predictable times.

Has "dry" periods of at least three or four hours, which shows that his bladder muscles are developed enough to hold urine.

Behavioral signs

Can sit down quietly in one position for two to five minutes.

Can pull his pants up and down.

Dislikes the feeling of wearing a wet or dirty diaper.

Shows interest in others' bathroom habits (wants to watch you go to the bathroom or wear underwear.

Gives a physical or verbal sign when he's having a bowel movement such as grunting, squatting, or telling you.

Demonstrates a desire for independence.

Takes pride in his accomplishments.

Isn't resistant to learning to use the toilet.

Is in a generally cooperative stage, not a negative or contrary one.

Cognitive signs

Can follow simple instructions, such as "go get the toy."

Understands the value of putting things where they belong.

Has words for urine and stool.

Understands the physical signals that mean he has to go and can tell you before it happens or even hold it until he has time to get to the potty.

There's no magic age at which children are ready to start learning how to use the potty, but some develop the necessary physical and cognitive skills between 18 and 24 months of age. Many parents don't start potty training until their children are 2 1/2 to 3 years old, when daytime bladder control has become more reliable. And some children aren't interested in potty training until they're closer to 3, or even 4.

I think it is a great idea to start early. IF YOU HAVE THE TIME. I read somewhere that parents are starting to have children potty trained by 1 year of age. But, they can't wear a diaper and have to be there constantly. Every time they start to go, rush them to the toilet. I see that as a problem for a parent of more than 1 or a working parent. But I think it's great to start early. I would just potty train as normal. Here is a site (in case you don't know)...

My son was potty trained at 18 months just by going potty every time he started to show signs of going in diaper.
At 2 we started him in a daycare that did not take that age potty and it took 8 months to potty train again using a book for him to read.

Wow, you starting pretty early in my opinion, but your child may very well be ready! I hated every step of potty training and I've got another one on the way! At 18 mos. (for my kids, I'm not saying for everyone) they just don't have the verbal or social skills to be able to "get" the whole process. Mine started closer to 2 1/2 and it took a long time. I didn't push it and tried to make it fun. Be prepared for lots of accidents - always have a change of clothes in the car!! I learned that the hard way. Just remember, what works on one kid might not work on every kid - so you may have to change it up and try different tactics. Be patient and sensitive - I've reminded myself of those plenty of times!! Good luck and take care!!

Wait on it! If the child wants to and shows intrest in it then get a little potty and give it a try, but I wouldn't expect a child that young to be in control of his/her bladder or bowl movements.
It will be the right time when the child shows intrests in it. Don't worry, i've yet to see kids go to kindergarden in pampers.

don't? Seriously it will only be with your assistance because at 18 months they can't get their clothes on and off, wipe themselves, reach the potty or wash their hands without assistance-so if you WANT to assist them for the next year and a half try whatever-its easiest to train them when they can do ALL of that themselves, I pick their 3rd birthday and start to finish it takes a bout a month...
