it depends on a nomber of factors - the stage of the cancer, its grade (size and aggressiveness) of the tumour(s), whether the cancer has spread to any lymph nodes and the type of cancer. I believe it is more common in the US than it is in the UK to have chemotherapy to shrink the tumour(s) before surgery, though this depends on individual circumstances. Following surgery you might have chemotherapy, radiotherapy, both or neither as appropriate. I had a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and now take an anti-oestrogen pill daily, because like most breast cancers mine was oestrogen positive (dependent on oestrogen). For oestrogen negative cancers there are unfortunately currently no treatments beyond radiotherapy and chemo. Some other treatments are available beyond chemo and rads for certain cancers - if your cancer is HER positive you will now be given Herceptin for example.

Yes. It sounds like they burned you pretty bad. It should get a little better over time. Hope you are doing better now.
