If it has been 6 years, I am sure you are not going to stop the habit. Sometimes they bite their feet to cut their nails. If his nails are long clip them. Also the hair between their toes can get tangled and hurt their foot. Have the hair between the pads and toes shaved. It is hard to do on your own. Have a groomer do it. Inspect the feet for dry skin, dirt, stickers, anything that can be causing it.

Ask your vet if there is any disease that can make them bite their feet. Birds will sometimes bite their feet due to internal parasites.

From what I understand, when a dog bites or gnaws on his skin such as his feet, it could be a sign of your dog having an allergy. Ask your veterinarian about the possibility of giving your dog a small dosage of benadryl when needed.

He might have allergies . . . check with your vet. Or he could have anxiety problems too . . . the vet is the only one who can figure this out.
